Marlin Camp Carbine 45 - Custom replacement barrel completed!!
Just picked up my Camp 45 from Salmon River Armory in Salmon, Idaho this morning.
The barrel is 16.5" long and I had it made from a .45 Carbon Steel blank with 1:16 twist and a Cerakote finish applied.
I could have gone with a stainless barrel blank, but the cost was considerably more.
I had the barrel made without a taper and no sights, which gives it a better feel with a bit more front end weight.
I decided not to have the barrel threaded at the muzzle.
I also decided to use the composite folding stock I had instead of modifying the original wood stock to fit the larger diameter barrel.
A little back-story, the original barrel had a bulge/split do to a squib load.....not good, and original barrels are near extinct as you know.
I also have the original box and a few original Marlin marked magazines.....maybe someday I will get lucky and a factory barrel will come my way, but to be honest, I REALLY like how this gun handles/shoots with the heavy custom barrel!!!
To be honest, I like this configuration very much.
Anyway, here are a few photos......

As a camp 45 owner, I like what you did to that gun!
As you may well know, If a person needs more firepower than a Camp 45, he's no turning to a 9mm for relief!

Thanks Jim!!
The camp carbines are a very fun design for sure and nice to have something other than an M4 platform.

Are the mags proprietary?
I know that the 69xx series mags would fit in a Camp 9.

Any standard full size (not Officer size) 1911 mags will work... ...Ben

Thanks Larry!
The barrel is a Green Mountain .45 blank 1:16 twist which is carbon steel and fairly inexpensive at around $76 for a 20" blank.
The gunsmith did the barrel machining and fitting and they did a great job!
I took it out to my pistol range just to give it a quick test......I was standing off-hand at about 30 yards and with the red-dot sight the balance was excellent and felt better than with the factory barrel. I will get the bench out and shoot it at 50 yards when the weather improves.
I may not bother trying to find a factory Marlin barrel.....it's a sweet shooter! But, I do have the original box/papers, so if one comes along that is decent priced I'll grab it and put the barrel in the box for the next owner someday.

I have literally never seen a Marlin 45 carbine for sale
in the mid cities area. Back when I got the itch for a 45 carbine
I went with a Mech Tech and never looked back.
Wherever the green/red dot is at trigger pull, there is a 45 caliber
hole.
Score is two coyotes and counting.

I have a Marlin Camp Carbine in .45ACP and its a hoot.
Many many years ago I saw an article in American Rifle on converting .45 Colt caliber Winchester 92's to .45ACP.
I think if Marlin brought out a tube feed lever gun in .45ACP it would be a very popular seller!

This suppressed Camp 45 that a friend owns is a hoot too.
He was living in Alaska and sent it to a guy in Texas for the work.
I imagine that, being blowback that these run fairly dirty.
When suppressed, it is even more so. Filthy action and soot covered brass that lands 45 feet away.
But it sounds like a .22 Aguila Colibri out of a long barrel. Not much more than the action noises.

The distance these Camp 45's throw brass is truly epic......I have found empties 20-25 feet away from where I am standing.

I agree! If you're shooting in a field or woods, 15 to 20% recovery is pretty good!

Where and how far away it throws brass doesn't matter. As long as it throws the "Copper" in the right spot! That's a really nice conversion, well thought out and done.

Really cool gun. Did you keep twist rate the same as original barrel? Or did you tweak it a little?
