Just read two articles about this newest CZ/1911 cross-pollenated offering from Dan Wesson...

Why in the world would they not have used the superior CZ design where the slide resides inside the frame vs. outside like in so many others?

Could it possibly have something to do with the 1911-like internals?

Cheers!

The slide riding within the receiver rails does make the CZ design a little more compact, but, yes, it also makes for a small grasping area when racking the slide. I have a Tanfoglio copy of the CZ-75 pre-B, a TZ-75 Series 88. The slide serrations on my TZ are pretty sharp, but I typically have the rear sight trapped somewhere under my hand and that helps with hanging onto the slide when loading the chamber. I can see where the small grasping area could be an issue with a pistol used in USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, or similar competitions. Needing to clear a stoppage does require a good grasp on the slide.

I appreciate both the logic presented and the most timely replies! I just have never had any problems racking the slide on my CZ: usually (at the range, anyway) once is enough...

The competition aspect (for which this new offering is clearly designed) never really crossed my mind: one can learn something new every day!

Thanks!

P.S. and Cheers!
