My favorite Remington rifle

My favorite is my 7600 30-06 pump I bought for myself right out of high school. Its been my deer gun ever since and has done the job faithfully. I have shared many thoughts and great memories with it by my side for 40 years this fall.

Now my backup deer gun is a model six. Almost the same gun and also a pump.

I did just find this 541 in a gun show this past fall. Price was cheap so I picked it up. Hadn't shot it yet. Not really a bolt gun fanbut sure has great maple wood.

The little 600 and 660 bolt actions are my favorite Remingtons

I have a 223, a couple in 6mm Remington, a 308 and a 350 Remington Mag and one I have rebarrelled to 6.5 Creedmoore.

I also have 2 XP100 that use the same action only with no magazine. One is a stock 221 Fireball and the other I rebarreled to 6mm Remington

Used to have several 700s that I liked.
Good variety of calibers for us Lefties.
Just never warmed to those ugly plastic covered stocks!

I've probably put more rounds down range with my old Nylon 66 than any other rifle I've owned.

BUT, for favorite Remington rifle it's a tie: I have 700s in 3006 & 8MM Rem Mag. Both have proven themselves in the field.

Rem 511P dad bought as my first 22lr rilfe but the year is lost to time .
hard a colt huntsman I learned to shot with in '61 and I have 788 in 308 I bought back in '73 when I turned 18 to hunt with and still have all three .

I like to punch little groups with all the tiny holes touching into a less than half a dime at 50 yards. A 70 year old Remington Rangemaster 37 does just that, given light wind.

I'd shoot for a nickel at 100 but the geezers I play with like the 50, less walking.

700 VTR in 308, with hand loads it is a winner and is deadly to whitetails.
I thought if everyone likes the old octagonal barrels of yesteryear maybe my great grandkids will think the triangle barrel is "really cool".

With the right ammo that 37 should do almost a one hole group.

Watch out for some smart A** with a Winchester..........

It’s a long way from stock, but it started out as a Remington 700 Tactical and it’s my favorite (short) long range rifle (out to about 800 yards).

I’ve also got this Remington 788 in .243 Win. It’s a great little rifle and like all of them, shoots much better than it has any right to shoot given its retail price when they were new. One of the reasons Remington discontinued it was the fact it shot as well or better than their more expensive 700. Its main flaws are some bolt flex with hot loads due to the rear locking bolt (but only 60 degrees of bolt throw) and a weak bolt handle that won’t tolerate abuse. It’s still my favorite light weight bolt action hunting rifle.

I also have a Remington 540XR. The lock and action is based on the 788 and like the 788 it shoots much better than it should for the price.

I also have a Remington 121, and it’s one of my favorite gallery rifles. Where John Browning made things elegantly and deceptively simple, John Pederson’s design tend to be intricate and complex but equally ingenious.

OK, AJ, here's one of mine from February too. The surprise was CCI-SV and cold bore. Five shot, 50 yds. Center to center .227"

... Model 550-1 .22 rifle...

Thanks to its ability to shoot all sorts of .22 ammo because of the floating chamber, a 550-1 loaded with CB shorts lives behind the kitchen door to deal with garden pests.

The Pederson designs are elegant. I have three.

A Model 12C is my favorite "walking around rifle" during squirrel season.

A Model 14-1/2 in .44-40 with a DCP Canadian proof that indicates it was part of an order for 4,000 in 44-40 for use during the First World War.

A Model 25 in .32-20, well, just because I like .32-20.

Lastly, a Model 1902 Rolling Block in 7mm Mauser. Again, I am fond of the cartridge and rolling blocks are just cool.

...and that is all there is from Remington around here.
