1939 P.08 Lugar barrel and letter question

I have a 1939 Luger by Mauser and the barrel matches all the other numbers, however under the serial number is 8.33. Is this a 9mm Luger because I have never heard of a 8.33 caliber.
I have searched and searched and found nothing.
Also need the letter identified. Picture below.

It's the land to land measurement and it is probably 8.83 mm rather than 8.33. I have seen them marked from 8.82 up to 8.85. 8.83mm is what you see the most.

Hard to tell from the photo, but that looks like it could be 8.83 - with the second 8 stamped a little deeper on the right side than on the left...
 
Yes, I think you are right. It is a 8.83.

Anyone know German script and tell me what letter this is, an i or x ?

I looked at mine and it is 8.82. Thank you for posting this question.
