Birchbark Puukko

Very nice! I've made a few Puukko myself, but...haven't had the patience to make one with a birch bark handle. I guess that's kind of a shame, since I have unlimited birch bark where I live.

Yours looks like a flat/ sabre grind? Very nice! I love a good Scandi edge, but I think a good flat grind is pretty versatile for everything up to and including wood craft.

It is flat grind. I make all my knives that way. Would love to see pictures of your puukko’s.
It’s pretty cool to think puukko style knives have pretty much stayed the same for centuries.

That is really remarkable and distinguished. Thank you for sharing.

Thoughts on durability for the handle?

The Norweigan and Danish ones I have don't hold a candle to this one as far as aesthetics.

The first knife I ever made was a puukko. The fella teaching me recommended it as an easy first, and a great knife. "Razor sharp blade, a handle, and nuthin' else. Just a fist full of sharp!" He was right. I made a...puukko shaped object. More importantly I learned to love the design.

These days I've moved onto full tangs, micarta/G-10 and full convex edges, but every now and then someone looks at my knives and remarks that they can definitely see Scandinavian influence in them. Ain't gunna lie, I consider that to be a great compliment to the practicality of the design.

Pics incoming as soon as I work thru my technical difficulties

From what I have read the birch bark is very durable. The material is an asset in cold climates according to the same article.
I’m pretty sure I’ll make a few more. Maybe with some leather and curly birch mixed in.
