Taylor's & Company 963 MF

I was browsing online inventory of my local big box store and noted a "Taylor & Company .357 mag revolver" though the title says it's six shot. Specs say it's seven shot. I like that it's new and interesting, but...it kinda looks awful to me. The barrel looks like a whacked out meth monkey attacked it with a dremel tool. The front sight looks like it came out of somebody's old Folger's can full of spare parts. The B/C gap looks broad enough to fit half a dozen playing cards thru. Cylinder release looks far too small. Pictures are not confidence inspiring. It seems Taylor's & Company is well regarded for their Western replica guns. Maybe they are just figuring out the new stuff? Maybe they already figured it out and I'm relying way too much on just an old stock picture? It's hard to figger. There are no reviews yet. Any of y'all have one? Care to clue me in or set me straight? I haven't shared the retailer or links because some forums don't allow that. I don't wanna mis-step and get another one of them infraction thingies...

Well....they're big to us....lol

There's a Bass Pro and a Cabela's in Anchorage, and Anchorage is only a twenty minute drive from Alaska, if that counts...

The T&C...I'm not against a strange looking revolver. The revolver must also be an evolver if it's stay relevant. I have a couple S&W revolvers with the light rail and all. I like them just fine. The Chiappa Rhino....I'd love to own one or mess with one. But..that T&C looks terrible. Like...did they do any market research into what a DA revolver should be before they released that? I see nothing but bad work and poorly considered notions in that thing. If anyone has shot or handled one and can prove me wrong, I'll gladly eat my humble pie and take in some learnin'...

A significant mover of fire-arms in Alaska is Sportsman's Warehouse with at least three big boxes in Anchorage, Wasilla, and Fairbanks, while Cabela's and Bass Pro have one each Anchorage only. The biggest local owned dealer by volume is Arctic Ammo on the Palmer Wasilla Highway.

Biggest advantage to that is the barrel looks like it would give you a good handful if you were inclined to hit someone with the base of the grips.

Somebody smacked that one with an Ugly stick as hard as possible, the result is something you would expect Wylie Coyote would carry.

Yeah the B/C gap is huge but I suspect those tunnels posing as barrel ports have a much larger effect on velocity. Eyeballing it I expect that functionally that is a 2 inch barrel with a 1/64 inch B/C gap. Load it up with a hot load featuring H110 and the flash will rival some of the larger 4th of July fireworks. Actually just pulling the trigger could end up setting the shooters clothes on fire.

It wouldn't be nearly as soul crushingly ugly if the thing didn't look like they covered it in glue and rolled in the parts drawer. Everything looks stuck on, not integrated into the frame. I guess we'll have to see how it shoots, but I for one won't be having one.

It would be fun to look at if the LGS had one. Over the years they had some Rock Island or some other low end new revolvers, not impressed at all. Someone at the club has a Rhino in 9mm, very impressive and accurate. Just don’t like the aluminum frame, was gonna actually buy one. Larry

Review

This is a review on Midway from 2 weeks ago. "This revolver has very poor quality for the price. Mine came with finish (paint) chipped in some spots. The cylinder does not lock tight. Single action is over 7 lbs. And there's not information (paper work) in the box on on who to contact with questions. So I guess there is no type of warranty for this firearm."

Made by Armi Olmi, of Italy. It seems to have appeared around 2013 (I found several articles from then), and they've been trying to get an importer for the last 10 years.

Yeah, that's pretty ugly.

Unless some at taylor has changed they do not make firearms only buy from others ! But that is one darn ugly revolver regardless of the price .

The new one doesn't have the forward secondary cylinder latch as mentioned and shown here. It was the 7-shot, and had a respectable DA pull. Trying to cock the gun one-handed was nigh on impossible. The hammer leverage was strange. However, it didn't have a commensurately heavy trigger-pull.

A local Sportsmans Warehouse had TWO of these in-stock today. Tagged just over a G....WHEW! Same horrible effort required to cock to SA. Neither had a DA to write home about. Wonky is the adjective that comes to mind.
