FFL-to-FFL shipping costs
My LGS owner, who does not do much shipping, is handling shipment for a recent sale of mine. He just called and told me that UPS is charging over $100.
What other carriers are available? At this rate breaking even on some sales might be pretty iffy.

Not sure
Not sure who my small FFL dealer uses but when I asked him on what shipping would be on a hand gun he said $30.

I think USPS Priority is the way to go with handguns. I just sent one out but my LGS owner didn't charge me, but I think it is the normal Priority box rate plus insurance.

Ship My Gun uses UPS and passes on a good discount to the sender and sends a PDF of a shipping label. Tape it on the box, hand it to the counter agent and get a receipt. Easy as that.

My FFL uses the USPS , and never had a problem . I recently sold a SA&W and with $2500 of insurance I still didn't hit $100 , so if I was you I'd call around and see what pops up .

USPS is available, I believe, to FFLs...
Cheers!

I will voice my unpopular opinion one more time. Priority mail flat rate box. Answer the questions they deem important enough to ask. Enough said.

My FFL uses USPS for FFL to FFL shipping, charges $25 plus the USPS fees. Last two handguns each cost me about $53 or $54 total. He did tell me that USPS just raised their insurance to $2 per $100.
I've also used shipmygun a couple times, it was less, around $35 each, but requires going to a UPS service center, which for me is a 90 minute round trip.

USPS is generally the cheapest way for an FFL to ship handguns.

FFL to FFL is cheapest when done via a Flat Rate Priority Mail box. Your FFL will have to submit a PS1508 form (available on-line) and declare the guns when they get dropped at PO. If the guy behind the counter syas "We can't/don't ship guns" tell him he's wrong and to look it up.
I've had to re-educate many postal empliyees that they CAN ship guns FFL to FFL as long as the PS1508 is submitted. Make sure you get the original back. If they insist on keeping it, get a copy and have them smack a cancellation stamp on it.
Best,

FFL to FFL, USPS, medium flat rate box plus insurance. Print and pay for the label online, take to PO with the form mentioned above.

Unless the OP is insisting on using UPS for shipping via his local FFL, USPS Priority Mail is much less expensive.
Until about two years ago, a non-FFL holder could ship a firearm via FedEx or UPS by next day delivery service (expensive). They now both require an FFL and next day service per their rules. Thanks, guys.

Many thanks much for the info, friends. I have printed the USPS 1508 and the Fedex info, and will take them to the LGS today.

USPS
My FFL shipper/receiver is a local pawn shop owned by two young men. The fee is $10.00 plus the cost of shipping and insurance via Priority Mail.

As RMVISAS mentioned not all USPS employees know how to ship a firearm. One lady at my local post office knows the routine. If I walk in and she’s not there, I’m out of luck. They are by far the cheapest and depending on how much insurance you want you get the signature for free. If you follow the rules it’s no big deal. Last gun I shipped was an N frame 4” it cost under $20………… all this is assuming you have an FFL and your shipping to an FFL.

You should ask them! If your a loyal customer of them, they’ll probably give you that information, just to prevent you from doing business with somebody else!

Not much information to go on. Handgun? Flintlock musket? Small cannon? Each has a different size container, weight, insurance requirement , etc.
As mentioned, the Post Office is often the least expensive but some of the competition can do it also.

Not a question about cost but rather procedure.
I ship a firearm through my FFL to the manufacturer for service. When work is completed it would be shipped back to same FFL for me to pick up. Should there be any additional paperwork required from me such as filling out a 4473?

Fedx has a new rule, you must have done a minimum of 10,000 dollars a year in business with them or they won't accept a firearm for shipment. As a side note, I have an FFL and have never liked doing business with Fedx and they have always been expensive. I prefer UPS simply because USPS isn't real reliable.

What manufacturer? The company with the best customer service in the country, Glock, will accept your gun directly from you and return it directly to you. No paper work needed.

The postal regs say the PO is supposed to stamp the date, sign it, and keep the 1508 for one year and then destroy it.
I DO NOT need a copy. I would have thousands of them stacked up. Why would I want a copy? IF the question ever arose about the form being filed with the shipment, it would be up to the PO to produce it. I have the FFL I shipped it to.

Any FFL whos lic includes Gunsmithing can recv a firearm for repair.
The FFL that does the repair can then return the firearm straight back to the owner.
There is no need for a 4473 or NICS check as there is no transfer in ownership.
Even if you chose to have an FFL send it to the Mfg'r, who then returns it to that FFL,,then back to you...No 4473/NICS when you take the gun back as no transfer of ownership was done nor intended (as would be in a consignment for example).
The FFl/Dealer simply farmed out the repair to the Factory. It wasn't ever anything more than that. A gunsmithing Repair.
But don't be surprised if the FFL/Dealer demands that a 4473/NICS be done anyway. His/Her shop,,their rules. Just like demanding the same be done on Antique Status firearms.
If you have a Glock and contact them for service and Glock can send you a pre-paid shipping lable so you can pack and ship the gun yourself with whatever shipping concern they chose to use,,that's fine.
Then Glock can return the pistol right to your address as well. No need to go thru an FFL, unless there is some State or local law demanding it.
If the Company won't issue you a prepaid shipping lable and says it's on you to pack, and then go to one of the big 3 to ship it out & pay the shipping,,then you are stuck it seems these days.
USPS won't ship handguns from non-FFL's
UPS and Fed_Ex have the recent insiders club plan that you have to join as an FFL to be able to ship firearms.
So it's off to a friendly FFL in hopes they will ship it USPO Priority Flat Rate and it won't break the grocery budget.
Boxing it up and shipping it yourself at the USPO and declaring it as a socket wrench set is done by some. But that's on you of course if they check the box addressed to 'Glock' and find the undeclared firearm inside.

I heard a rumor from a "friend" that with the proper address that the USPS will deliver a flat rate box to Glock if the name is just GMC without actually being spelled out for anyone to read
