...rifles. I've seen mainly Rossi and Savage down in my preferable price range. I'm considering a semi-auto rifle in .22 Magnum that doesn't look like a "scary black assault" rifle. Perhaps wooden furniture and a regular, or old style butt stock. I have a cool little .22 LR semi-auto Mossberg Brazilian rifle I got for my grandson that actually works pretty good and accurate for what it is (cheap), but among my few rifles & shotguns I don't have what I'm talking about. I live in the city, for now, but I think one would be a fun and kinda good to repel a home invader.
Does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, or alternative rifle I could check out. Also, the ones I've quickly looked at have a rail so I would have to buy a set of sights; not a scope, etc., as I'm not planning on targets past 50 yards.
Thanks for any ideas, etc.......Jeff T.

BTW, I would consider paying up to around $1000 +/- if the ones I mentioned are basically undependable. This gun will be my grandson's, as will be most of my firearms.

Savage makes that A-22 magnum semi auto that has the delayed bolt that is suppose to offer good feeding and ejection with the 22 WMR round. Looks nice and has a 21 inch barrel I believe. Has the synthetic stock I believe.

Brno 611, this one was made in '94. I collected serial numbers on these for a while and found through that data that there were only about 12K made. You can find find them dated from 92 thru 99 and I never collected any numbers from '97 or '98. After the 611 there was the 611A, the A model was an unflattering version of the original and was made in '02 & '03. If you decide to go this route stay away from the A.

I have a newer magnum research with the ultralight carbon fiber barrel and love it. Seems to eat most anything EXCEPT CCI ammo. Turns it into a single shot for some reason. Had a 200 rd break in period and after that it has been pretty solid except for the before mentioned CCI. Uses Ruger magazines, so you can find some of the 20 or 25 rounders.

BAM-BAM, I go by that place about every day but have never stopped in. This will give me reason to check it out. Thanks. A "gun guy" from the grocery store stops in there and says he's a good guy.
To all, those all look like nice guns; all suggestions appreciated. I have a better idea what to look for.

CZ 512 is a really nice gun. I have a CZ 512 and a BRNO 611, both really cool and smooth working guns. The 22 WMR models are out of production but still available used. A short handy 22 mag semi auto is a very versatile combination.

Henry rifles would be my choice. My history of firearms doesn't go back as far as others.

Lever action...tube fed...11rd cap

Two models available...$600-$700 price tag
