Is it all Tactikool now?

Some of us younger shooters are not so enthralled by the tacticool(especially where lever action rifles are concerned). Blued steel barrels with brass reciever and butt plate looks too good to pass up. That said, some of the tacticool stuff catches my eye, like the Kel-Tec CMR30 or HK USP 45 elite for example. Took me forever to get into AR15s and despite the amount of "tactical Tupperware" that I own, I will always prefer metal framed handguns.

Yes I know I said a Kel-Tec was tacticool. I'm weird, I know.

I seldom shoot anything but my own cast bullet handloads in all my handguns, but just bought some of the "Service Grade" Winchester. I haven't fired any of it yet. I assumed that all 230 grain ball ammo is about the same as far as velocity and accuracy. Any comments from those of you who have used a variety of such ammo? Have you seen a difference?

I've shot several thousand rounds of Win Service Grade .45 ACP 230g from my two .45 cal. pistols, a Shield and an FNX Tactical (hard to avoid that term these days!), and I've never had an issue. It's both reliable and accurate, and more accurate than white box Winchester.

That said, my favorite .45 ACP range ammo is American Eagle 230g. It's slightly more accurate than the Service Grade, due I think, to its higher velocity, 890 fps vs. 865 fps. However, it's more expensive than Service Grade, and don't think its slight improvement in accuracy justifies its higher cost. So Service Grade is mostly what I shoot from my 45s.

swsig-Thank you for the comments. As I said, I thought all 230 gr. ball .45 ammo was about the same. Maybe not. I do have some American Eagle also (small primer); perhaps I need to do an accuracy comparison of the two.

Winchester also sells the M1152 115 gr Conical FMJ in brown boxes as Service Grade. About $10.50 a box. Advertised velocity is 1300 FPS.
