I will likely get out of the 40S&W and 10MM handgun world. Reason being likely long term nerve damage caused by bi-lateral carpal tunnel syndrome. It is just not worth the pain in my hands after shooting a few of those cartridges. So, what to do? I plan to sell my 10MM handguns and convert my 40’s to 9mm. That leaves a fair amount of ammo. Should I sell or trade it for 9MM? Or should I buy a Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) in 40S&W and/or 10MM? I have been looking at PCC options. There are a few options in 40S&W but less for 10MM (at least based my research). Previously owned a Keltec Sub 2000 and a Ruger PCC – don’t want those again. The Hi-Point is reliable but has a horrible trigger (per multiple reviews). There are a few others. The CMMG product is nice but expensive (by my standard). The other two options I have looked at Pro 2A Tactical and the TNW Aero Survival Rifle. Does anyone out there have any experience with either of those brands? Any input appreciated and thanks.

I have a couple of TNWs, and like them very much. I have one in 9mm and one in .45, and have been contemplating .40 and 10mm for them respectively. Conversions are relatively inexpensive as long as you don't need to change out the lower frame/magwell to accommodate a different size magazine (like going from 9mm to .45.) They are of a modular design and can be fitted with about any accessory you could want, and offer quick and easy takedown. You can even order them in a 3 caliber of your choice combo from the factory so you don't have to buy conversion kits.

What are 2 conditions that could mimic carpal tunnel syndrome?

Arthritic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and osteoarthritis, can all cause pain in the hands and fingers that may mimic carpal tunnel syndrome.

I bring this up because I was misdiagnosed for 15 years. When I changed Medical Plans the new provider looked at my DNA and corrected my diagnosis.

You have two options. A) sell all the pistols and ammunition. B) keep them and use sparingly.

Most of my senior friends did Option A and still shoot but just .22 and occasionally .38 handguns. Option B is what I do with the .45 ACP. I shoot 50 rounds and then 100 rounds of either .38 or 9mm and then the .22s.

I enjoy shooting .40 from my 610. The rubber grips that cover the back strap help. Don’t know if you can still comfortably shoot revolvers, but 165 grain bullets from an N frame are pretty pleasant. I know it’s not your question, just throwing options out.

Depending on what pistols you have, it might be worth taking a look at Mech-Tech PCC conversions. No variants for S&Ws, alas. As for the ammo, if you're sure you won't be shooting those calibers again, trade or sell seem about the same to me. Hope you find a good resolution.

I do not know your financial situation. But sometimes it is better to give than to receive. If you cannnot make a good trade or sale, perhaps you should consider gifting your now surplus ammo to someone working hard but not making enough to spend on range ammo.

Started preparing for the eventuality more than a couple years ago. The last step being 22 lr. PPC's can be very easy on the recoil and very effective. A 44 mag short lever with mild loads in it is extremely easy to shoot and hit with. When my mother was 80 somethin, had her try a 16 in Marlin 44 mag with good recoil pad and mid 180 jhps. She was on humanoid paper chest target very quickly at 25 yds.

robrossk, selling your 10mm's and 40's may be a big loss. Both the major LGS's and the chain stores in my area have used 40's and 10mm's selling well below retail. And they aren't selling.

Hmm, I have a Glock 19 (9mm) and it's twin sister the Glock 23 (.40 S&W) that I have shot side by side. I find the difference in recoil insignificant.

It would be an easy choice for me. PCC. And my wallet would tell me to go with the TNW. Actually, it would suggest that I go with the Hi-Point, but I'd hold out for the TNW.

This wouldn't be a money saving measure, you probably don't have a thousand bucks worth of ammo. But it would keep you shooting 10mm more comfortably.

You have a much wider choice in the .40 S&W.

Did you have surgery for your carpal tunnel issues ?

I had the carpal tunnel surgery about 10 years ago and it made me a better week hand shooter !! Only held my normal activities back for a 9 days and I was a hands on home builder. I held off on my defensive handgun shooting for several months . but I did start shoot my 22lr colt huntsman a week later ,

I spent almost 3 months before shooting strong handed again and today I still shoot an m&p 4.25 40sw with 1300fps 155gr 40sw loads both home rolled and underwood today . Never had an interest in the 10mm but I do have a handgun good to go with 45 super if needed for dangerous game !

Having the surgery made me a better week hand shooter !!

I do know if your Carpal tunnel issues is a real concern how it will not go away on its own if it bothers you now .

You could sell or trade your 10mm as far as I'm concerned as there still a hot got have handgun for many and convert your 40 to a 9mm might be ok but keep the ammo . Post surgery recovery You might find the 40sw parts is still wanted .

10MM handguns and ammo are currently pretty hot in the market.

.40 S&W stuff moves, but at a lower price than other calibers. For example, there is a considerable difference in what a Glock 19 will bring vs a Glock 23, assuming all other things being equal between them.

You might be able to find a gunstore that would take your ammo in on trade, but it depends on the gunstores around you.
