Was reading somewhere that one should not shoot "high velocity" .22LR out of the PPK/S (and I've also heard this as it relates to the S&W M41, mine is an early one).

In looking at CCI Mini-Mag ammo, it's rated at 1260fps.

In looking at Federal Target Grade Performance .22, the box says 1200pfps.

I don't have much other .22 ammo to research so is the 60fps slow enough to not damage the Walther and/or the Smith M41, or is the admonishment to not shoot High Velocity a non-issue?

Hey Mr. Nut. I have a pre-war PP in .22 and I was told by someone in the know, not to shoot high velocity. However, it seems to be common knowledge that European weapons require more powerful ammo.

If yours is a ppk/s it is a newer model and I think it would be fine with any ammo.

I use the mini mags in my 70's era PPK,PPKs and in my 80's era Manurhin PPKs. I have not had any problems.

I don't know if your PPK requires it or not, but you can look for sub-sonic and standards velocity loads; speed will vary slightly by Manufacture but are usually in the 1070-1080 fps range. I've got three older Hi standards that I use it for, along with a 22/32 First Production Run Revolver. 22/32 First Production Run Revolver

I had an older PPK/S for twenty years or so; sold it a few years ago. I usually fired CCI SV in it. CCI SV was just adequate to work the action most of time, but occasionally it didn't. High-velocity worked the action fine but as I recall it wasn't as accurate and I tried many. Regular Blazer and CCI Mini-Mag were probably the most accurate of the HV ammo.

I never heard you weren't supposed to shoot HV ammo in these guns; perhaps that's true.

Mr. SmkithNut,

It takes 14"16" to get a full burn from a .22LR.

With a 3"-4" barrel you won't get close to 1200fps. Shoot a few through a coronagraph you might get 900fps.

HV ammo will have higher chamber psi and maybe/maybe not knock the slide back a little harder thus beating up your guns.

In my Ruger Mark pistols I run a stiffer spring and have no problem with CCI mini-mags.

Stingers are the ones you want to stay away from, the case is longer than a standard .22LR case.

It's been a while but I recollect using CCI Stingers in my PPK/S 22.

It's a modern steel frame gun that some might want to carry for self defense. To think it will not handle HV .22 LR is not realistic. I remember back in the early days of the Ruger std model semi auto pistol their advertising stated that they had an independent company put 41,000 round through one gun with no problems.

My 60's PPK in .22LR preferred hotter ammo. CCI Mini-Mags and Remington Vipers shot the best in it.
