after 22 years I bought a Glock 34
After contemplating the G34 for at the past (approximately) 22 years today I finally "pulled the trigger" (bad pun) and bought a gen 5 G34. No reason besides because. I tried to buy a gen 3, but all the local shops said that the gen 3 models are hard to get since they get shipped to California first (that's what they told me). So, I went with the gen 5. I tend to favor short-barreled revolvers and long barreled pistols. Bought it through Glock's Blue Label program so it saved me approximately $130. Can't complain. A comparison to my G45 which is my duty sidearm. I don't consider myself a Glock fanboy, but I have three of them now. Strange how they seem to work their way into my safe.

Got one Glock left and will be shed of them. Glock 19 Gen 4 with Apex upgrades has been replaced by an Sig 320 compact.

Glock's are the best,Socom and Special Forces units do not use the Sig 320 to many problems. The standard Army grunts use them, but they have a shorter service life and a higher jam rate than the Glock's,but it came down to cheaper price for the Army masses. Men in the special Ops get the better more reliable durable Glock's.

I was anti Glock until after I retired. The Police Department got Glocks and I had a chance to shoot a variety of 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP. I prefer the 1911s and Beretta 92FS for pistols. But the Glock is a great choice.
Eventually I got a Glock 19

I like the G34 and also it's 45 ACP counterpart, the Glock 41
I have an inbound G41 with red dot, supressor height sights and a Surefire X300.
I love S&W revolvers, 1911 pistols, and.... yes, Glock pistols.

I have a Gen 3 G34 that I’ve had for at least 15 years. Shot a lot of USPSA with it. I’m no great match shooter but it has done all I’ve asked of it through several thousand rounds. I don’t recall that I ever had a malfunction with it. I reckon that’s about all I can ask for.

A lot of what a person likes has to do with what they "grew up with." If someone started out with 1911's and Beretta 92's that is what they have a tendency to prefer.
I did not grow up on 1911's and 92's. I tolerate 1911's (I don't see the glowing attraction) and actually dislike the 92. I was an easy convert to Glocks early on and have shot them for about 20 years. Love my Gen 5 G19.

The long barrel Glocks are the only ones I would consider buying, and even then only at the right used price. Thing is, every time one comes up, I've just blown my gun money on something else.

I have had a Gen 3 Glock 34 for about 18 years. Shoot IDPA with it and only mods are a Ghost Pro 3.3 connector, Heine slant pro rear sight and Dawson Precision fiber optic front sight. It has been a great gun and digests all my reloads without a glitch. Like my golf game, I know new equipment won’t make me any better, but I sure am lusting for a Sig P320 X-five legion😂

Agreed. My father loved the 1911 platform. Me not so much. Of all his 1911 variants that I inherited the only one I've held onto is the Combat Commander (mfd. 1974). It was one of the first guns he taught me to shoot.
I do like the Beretta 92 however. I was in high school when it was selected by the DOD (1985) and it was the first handgun that I qualified on after I went into the Army. Of course, I also grew up watching it in the Lethal Weapon and Die Hard movies. I have no intention of letting go of my Beretta 92FS.

The G34 is a competition pistol. Made for matches, not duty.
Too long and bulky to ride comfortably in a squad car. The additional barrel length is an extra couple inches for a bad guy to grab onto in close quarters.
The extra velocity and site radius are so minuscule as to be inconsequential in the real world.
For just a range toy, they’re great. But for serious uses a G17, G19, or G45 are far superior if you must stick with 9mm (I certainly do not, G20 here).

Bought my first Glock couple years ago, a 4th gen G19. Then got a G42 for best shooting 380 owned. Last year got a G23 for same size as G19 but more umph. They are very good at what they are designed for, mags are inexpensive and cross compatible with several other firearms, durable and reliable. Still think the triggers suck, but it be a trade off.

Glock describes it as "practical/tactical" and it's hardly a custom built race gun suitable only for competition. The list of law enforcement organizations that use either the G34 or G35 is pretty extensive. Not sure why you hate the gun, but it has a lot of fans...

Overall length of a 34 is still shorter than a four-inch barreled revolver.
My one Glock is a very early G17L, and I really like it. If I was to buy a new 9mm Glock, a 34 Gen 5 would be my probable choice.
I know I'm not in the majority, but i think the longer barrels advantages outweigh their drawbacks.

You hit the nail on the head. that is exactly why I acquired the G34. Many of the pieces in my collection are because I've always wanted one. Nothing to do with real world applications. Only a few falls under that category. The G45 is my duty sidearm and will remain so until I retire in approximately three years.

I have owned a G34 Gen 4 for about 5 years .I use it for Steel Plate matches as well as a general range gun .
I replaced the stock sights with a Dawson Precision fiber optic and a blacked out rear. The stock trigger was replaced with an assembly from Glocktriggers . I have found both upgrades to be a worthwhile improvement .
I've shot thousands of rounds through the gun with no reliability issues .
They're a pretty good gun for the money.

I tried several glocks back some years a neightbore has that carried glocks as a duty handgun as his g22 was and a new to the market at that time a gen 5 19 and g41 and that took care of my interest in owning or shooting glock . To many decades shooting & carrying pistols with normal grip angles that also do not have flat sides to the grip .

Never say these seven words to a 'steel is real' pistolero:
Would you like to shoot my Glock?
Hopefully they'll just aim for the trigger.

I have a lot of respect for Glock as a company even though I have never owned one. They have excellent quality control and customer service and I've shot a lot of them in many sizes and calibers and I shoot them well but not crazy about the grip, trigger, and lack of a manual safety. If they made one similar to the configuration and ergonomics of an M&P 2.0 I might buy one, but on the other hand I am totally happy with my Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0.

I’ve shot my buddies long slide Glock 10 mm. The model number escapes me at the moment. It’s quite accurate with the Trijicon RMR it feels like you’re cheating.
I have been issued a variety of handgun brands during my career. Sig, Beretta and Glock. They all worked fine. I love 1911’s, Hi-Powers and Smith wheel guns too. Not very interested in most of the current Sig offerings. Specialization is for insects and the gun is a tool, the man behind the trigger is the weapon.
I never understood the Glock grip angle complaint. I hated Glocks before I was issued one because it was “plastic.” I was ignorant then. They started issuing Glock 17 or 19. Decided I better master this platform because my life depends on it. I really came to appreciate that trigger, no super long first DA pull, no safety to forget to swipe off. Berettas are nice guns but there safeties are straight up retarded.
I wish the Glock 19x or Glock 45 were available before I retired. I prefer the commander type set up of a full size grip and commander length slide. Especially for riding in a squad. An RMR negates the sight radius advantage and that short slide clears the holster faster. That being said I’d love to own a Glock 34 or the 10 mm version. I like guns.

My last duty gun before retirement was a standard size Glock (don't recall the model#) in .40 S&W. That made a convert out of me.
When the Models 26 and 27 became available, I bought a 26. Since I got it, it has been my only EDC firearm. I don't believe in rotation (stipulated that YMMV). I am more comfortable carrying the same firearm all the time.
The grip angle on the Glock, or on any other pistol does not bother me. I have no problem adjusting. What is more important to me is grip thickness. I have large hands so I really like double stack magazines for the size of the grip. I have put Pearce magazine extenders on my double stack compact pistols and those make a material difference.
I could mention the many reasons I like the Glock, but I'll just summarize the conclusion. The scariest sound in the jungle is 'click'. I don't ever want to hear that sound. I think the Glock gives me the best chance of never hearing that sound. Other pistols arguably may be just as reliable, but no one that I know of has been able to make a case of another pistol being more reliable.
That level of reliability in such a compact package with the payload it carries is, for me, ideal.

My agency went to issuing Glock in 2006. Before that I carried a SIG Sauer P220. It was a good pistol, but times change. I knew it was coming so I bought a G19 to learn the platform. I came to appreciate it as well. I carried the G19 from 2006-2021 when I was issued the G45. I bought my G19 for a negligible sum and it is in my safe. I retire in three years and I will be gifted my G45 as a retirement gift. I don't know if I will get to keep the Steiner red dot sight. I own many different handguns, but the G19 is and will remain my CCW. Compact, lightweight reliable and simple to operate under stress. Works for me.

Some carry guns are best not seen
or brought up in discussions.
On a serious note, loaded some XTPs
for my boy's new G36, 15 or so years ago,
and was surprised with the tight groups.

The Glock 34 is a great pistol and one of best bang for your buck in a High performance racegun or duty gun. A great all around 9mm with performance on the range or on the job.

If you are looking for a recommendation try a Glock 43. I know three lawyers who fit your description and two of them carry Glock 43’s; the other one carries a Glock 42 .380.

I was not a Block fan and resisted owning one for 30+ years, in spite of the hype. Grip felt weird, angle was odd, bit ugly, horrid trigger.
Yet, I became a recent convert and now shoot Glocks reasonably well. Just took some time at the range and a slightly better trigger. My first was a G35.
Still have a strong preference for 1911/2011 platforms, but you know what....some of these Glocks aren't so bad after all.
They certainly do run and I like the proliferation of aftermarket parts.

I sure like mine, added Dawson Precision adjustable sights.

I love my Glock 34. The only thing I added to mine was a KKM threaded barrel (so I can run a can on it) and Trijicon suppressor-height sights for obvious reasons. The gun is tack-drivingly accurate, and I've never had a problem with the stock Glock trigger. It goes bang when I ask it to, and never when I don't.

When does that gene kick in. I bought a factory refurbished 21 gen 4 several years ago and have had no desire to purchase another. It's OK for it's intended purpose but I like steel and wood.

For those who don't like the grip angle of the Glock (and once scotus slaps the 80% frame rule down), try out a Polymer 80 lower. For whatever reason, it points quite nicely.
[we probably shouldn't subvert the thread into an 80% lower debate - we can have it elsewhere if it matters]

There is a reason McDonald's has so many menu items, not everyone likes the same sandwich. It's like saying I tried a Fish Filet Sandwich and didn't like it because it had too much tarter sauce so I'm never going back to McDonald's.
I mean, a Glock 21 is not even one of their popular models. I'm a Glock fan and I don't like the Glock 21. Maybe try something else on the Glock menu.

Uh... I always thought that was the reason it was usually refered to as "concealed carry"...?
Cheers!

As I wrote the 21 is OK for it's intended purpose, minute of intruder at 15 yards. My firearm funds are limited and are better spent on a blued steel and wood wheel gun.

I have to say that my first love is S&W revolvers for sure.
But the next most handguns I have are those darn Glocks!
I shoot them about as good as any other handgun I own,
which is to say good enough to hit my target, most of the
time anyway. Hey, I'm old with mediocre vision. Don't have
a 34, just one early model 17 which is a solid gun for sure.

I have a Glock 19 Gen 4 I bought new in 2016 as I figured I needed to buy before Hillary was elected. I’ve always shot it quite well but with the arrival of the Shield Plus, I often feel it’s obsolete as a conceal carry gun and extraneous even for home defense. But even so, complete with the gritty stock trigger and all the Glock idiosyncrasies, I still enjoy it as a range gun and don’t think I’d ever part with it.
