Looks like we have our answer. Colt added another vent to the 4.25" barrel rib for "purely aesthetic reasons." It seems like an awfully strange, and objectionable, move to alter a highly-anticipated legacy design for the sake of subjective looks. Especially when the stainless models have their traditional two-vent setup.

A fella over on the Colt forum posted this video of the new 6" blued Python and his original Royal Blue Python. While I may have tried to do a little better job of cleaning them before the video, the finish on the new Python looks pretty good compared to the original Royal Blue. A little blacker perhaps, but still pretty darn good. Several of the members there ordered 4.25" or 6" blued new Pythons when Colt shipped the first batch out a week or so ago, and the ones that have received them seem to be impressed.

Another fella on the Colt forum got one of each. I don't mind the three vents on the 4.25" version at all.

Colt did a great job with that blue finish. The 6" is an instant classic. The third vent on the 4.25" looks odd though; it looks like a cheap clone rather than a real Colt Python. I don't understand the reason as the stainless Python 4" has the normal two vents. I can't wait to see the blue 2.5" and 8" versions though!

Of course, I may just end up getting one of those matte stainless Pythons. While they aren't as pretty, the price is more in my range and the finish seems more suited for use in Louisiana. It reminds me of the old Coltguard finish, as well as the original SS finish Pythons had in the 80s before the bright SS was introduced.

Waiting on a 2 1/2. I doubt they can put three vents on one.

I'm still torn on if I should hold out to see if Colt reverts back to the more traditional 2-vent setup on these new models. But once my gun shop gets one in I probably won't be able to resist taking the plunge.
The 6” is correct. I bet you bring it home. Just a wild guess.
I’ll wait for the 2.5”. Hope it comes with one vent

Yeah, the 6” with the 3 vents looks like it should. The 3 vents on the 4” just look too busy. To me, if they put 3 vents on the 4” model strictly for aesthetics, then why didn’t they put 4 vents on the 6”model, since it would be keeping less space between the vents on it too? I do think that the bluing looks very good on the new ones.

Smile Long ago Long Colt

I’m holding out for Česká zbrojovka (CZ)
Colt to bring out the Anaconda 45Colt,
Blued, 5” barrel, 4 evenly spaced vents
across the top of the barrel.

I’m not messing around, I’m just glad they’re
bringing nice new and improved revolvers to
market.

I am glad to see the love for the 2.5" Python! I know people love the 3" because it was such a rare gun back in the day, but the 2.5" just looks more classic. It will look so good in blue with the smaller wood grips.

While we are they are at it, Colt should release a proper Cobra. The new steel framed Cobra is basically a modern Detective Special. In this day, .38 only guns should be aluminum frame - like the Airweights and LCR. If Colt took that new Cobra .38 and used a lightweight frame like the old Cobra, I would buy one in a heartbeat!

I'm hoping to see the 3" come out in blued steel.

Hickok45 reviewed one of the new, blued carbon steel Pythons. It seems the ones with the three vent slots close together is not a 4 inch barrel, but is a 5 inch barrel.

But I'm reading they've only introduced blued Pythons in 4.25" and 6". It was the same with the stainless ones. 4.25" and 6" came first then after two or three years they introduced the 3" and 5".

I have not seen one, nor do I see them on the Colt site yet. To my eyes, the barrel with the three vent slots looks longer than 4 or 4.25 inches, but I know that can also be deceiving.

I'll attach photos I've seen of the 2024 4.25" blued Python with 2 vents and also with the 3 vents. Will the real 4.25" blued Python please stand up?

I just picked up a new, blued 6" gun yesterday. It's gorgeous! I will say, though, that I prefer the old target grips over the new ones and, since I had a set of old ones in the drawer, I installed them. The blued 4.25" gun has three slots - the stainless 4.25" has two. Colt says they like the aesthetics of three slots better but many seem to disagree. The 6" is still correct with three. Also, the hammer, trigger and front face of the cylinder release latch on the new one are all blued rather than polished or case hardened like on the old one. Small differences, though. I think Colt has really hit a home run with the new blued Python.

Guys what am I missing? To my knowledge the new Pythons are available in 3, 4.25 and 6" with the 4.25 and 6" now available blued.

What's all this about new 2.5" snubbie Pythons?

Stainless Pythons are available in 2.5", 3", 4.25", 5" and 6". They've been available for some time, and I see lots of them in the stores these days. There's a LGS here that has at least one of each on the shelf. The blued Pythons just came to market couple of weeks ago. They're available in 4.25" and 6". I haven't seen any in the stores yet but they are occasionally available online. I got a blued 6" about 10 days ago and I'll probably get a 4.25" when I find one at or below list price.

Ok now I see the 2.5s online but they still aren't on the Colt website which isn't all that surprising I guess.

I highly recommend getting one of the new Colts if you haven’t already done so. They’re outstanding.

I bought one of the new 4.25 and 6 inch Anacondas.
Additionally, I have a new 3, 4.25, and 6 inch Pythons.
Once you get the single action trigger pull rectified the new Colts, they are fabulous. The tolerances on them are so small, it’s as if there is no tolerance. I’m a huge fan. (As if you couldn’t tell) I like the new grip material. I like the rear sight. The finish on all my new Colts is flawless.

The 6 inch Anaconda has more than once, put 5 Lyman/Kieth 429421s that I cast, right at .75 inches at 25 yards (with the aid of a Delta Point Pro and sandbags) Even the 3 inch Python can more than hold its own.

The new Colts also shoot fast. I discovered that fact with the aid of the Garmin Xero that I got a couple of weeks ago. I have 158s going 1230 fps with a published charge of H110 in the 3 inch Python!

I’m a shooter, not a collector that’s looking to find fault in what Colt is doing now. 2 vent cuts, or 3? Who cares? I love them all.

One last comment, then I’ll get off my soap box. I like to “Deep Clean” my stainless revolvers. I use Semichrome polish to remove the carbon rings on the front of the cylinder, and the bottom of the top strap, etc. I can make them look like they’ve never even been test fired. The Colts are so slick, and hard, they clean up very easily. Smiths, are not too bad, but require more time and effort. Rugers are rough in comparison.

Smile 5” Barrel

After reading this thread on the blued Pythons,
I hope Česká zbrojovka (CZ) Colt brings out a
Python 357mag, 5” barrel, just like the 5” barrel
stainless steel version that came out.

I would consider buying the 5” barrel.
