Any vintage pellet rifle enthusiasts out there?? Sheridan/Crosman
I purchased an estate last summer and ended up with 3 vintage pellet rifles which I have been doing research on so I can put them up for sale someplace.
These include a very clean Sheridan Blue Streak Model CB in .5mm/.20 Cal with original box and tag from Montgomery Ward and made in 1971
And a pair of early Crosman rifles.....the older one is from the 1930's and is most likely the Model 102 repeater in .22 Cal and the other is a bit newer Model 140 also in .22 Cal. The Model 140's were made from 1957-1961
Was curious if any of you folks have owned these particular rifles either in your youth or currently??

Hello. I have a Sheridan Blue Streak. Love it. My wife is from Racine Wisconsin where they were made. Had a peep sight installed on it

Old school pellet rifles
Hey there, I have about every single one of them and usually shoot one or two every day at my construction yard! Today I shoot a Sheridan 5 mm. Probably one of my favorites. But I guess I say that about whatever I'm shooting that day! I also shoot many spring guns too, Weirauch, Diana, and Air Arms. Pellet pistols are fun too, Webley, Sheridan, Crosman. They all scratch the shooting itch and don't get you in trouble for shooting in the city since they're legal!
Make sure you keep a few pumps in them to keep the seals plump if they're not already dried out.
Happy shooting!
Fred

Nice find on the Blue Streak and Pellet Rifles. I’ve got a Sheridan Silver Streak in 5mm/20 cal. in the box that I bought in about 1985, best I remember. I ordered the Williams Peep Sight at the same time for it and installed it from day one. Pretty accurate for old school technology. I’ve got several BB and Pellet rifles that both my sons had growing up and they are from the 1970’s.

I got my first Sheridan air rifle when I was a kid. They were top notch back then and still have a strong following today.
I suspect yours would do well on eBay!

I remember going down to the river with our pellet guns (he had a Crossman, me with my Sheridan) tossing the bottles we found into the current and shooting them as the floated away, chasing them, jumping over brush, quick taking a knee, trying to get that kill shot. I love that hollow POP, then down she goes, recycled! I remember it well cause it was 2 days ago. I am still doing it 50 years later. When I stop plinking it's over. Hard to believe 2 old timers can have that much fun for the price of a couple dozen BBs and barely breaking any laws.

I was given a Blue Streak by a neighbor when I was about 13. It was fun to shoot, shot cans and paper targets. I believe my brother still has it.

Sheridan 5MM
I still have my Sheridan Blue Streak from my childhood days, 54 years ago.
Shooting at 25 yards, what would be the standard/acceptable accuracy at that distance with 8-10 pumps?
I can't seem to beat an 8 inch group off a sandbag...

Not sure on that, but have you ever replaced any of the parts over the years? I have seen kits available for various pellet guns on eBay.

Fancy Wood Sheridan
Came across this one about 10 years ago. I think someone with some good stock making skills dressed it in AAA wood. Absolutely beautiful and still shoots great. Thought about selling over the years but one look and a few shots sends it back to the stable.
Good old school fun!

I bought my first non-Daisy air rifle when I was 12, early 1970s. Sheridan Blue Streak 5mm, neighbor's yard sale, $10. I only had $9. Sold! Foreshadowing many future gun shows. I still have it but have not shot it in decades, the seals are toast. I do remember it hit a lot harder than my buddies .177 Crosman pump rifle and was a pretty reliable squirrel slayer. Accuracy was only so-so. Anybody have a source for new seals? Would love to get it up and running again. Great thread!

I have a pump up Benjamin in '22 cal that I used 60yrs ago to hunt rabbits in the snow. As I recall it was quite effective. Couple years ago I had a squirrel problem that it cured. I think the barrel and pump tank are brass. It is wood
stocked. My Dad bot it for me & when I go my son gets it. Although not a pellet gun I also have a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun. Keeps unwanted birds from the feeder.

She's still all original. Even when not in use, I generously kept all parts well lubricated.

Those guys are all likely going to need seals, and re-lubed, at a minimum.
Thee outlet for that work, and perhaps they'd even consign them for you (I don't know) is,

I just got off the phone with Mike at Baker Air Guns and he has seals in stock for both the Crosman 102 and 140 as well as the tool needed to do the job.
The 140 is holding air currently but I am sure new seals would be an improvement.
The 102 is not holding air.

I am certainly not an air rifle guy and these guns have all been in the basement of an old friends house for many years.....would be good to get them freshened up and back in service.....AND find then all new homes!!

I have a Blue Streak that I picked up in the mid-1970's. I've kept it maintained, and it still performs quite well for my purposes.

I revived shooting airguns during the pandemic shutdown and have collected some of the new ones since then.
Of course I still have the Sheridan, Crossman 760, and Gamo Cadet from the 80's that I learned to shoot with, but when my Dad passed away I found a few things that he had collected. Here are some of the older pistols that I guess are considered rare these days by the other members of the airgun Facebook group that I joined, although a part of the uniqueness is they all still work and are pretty much complete.

Back when younger, a friend and I spent many days in the woods shooting our pellet rifles. I had the Crossman and he the Sheridan. His max amount of pumps was 8 and my Crossman was 10. His was way more powerful especially with a 5mm heavier pellet per bird. Most of the time he used 6 pumps. Came close to buying a Sheridan but don’t really have a use for it. Good luck selling them Tom, you fall into some good deals. Did it warm up in Salmon??
Have a Daisy 777, I found it unfired 10 yrs ago. Fun in the basement at 10 meters. Nice accurate gun.
Are 5mm pellets still available? Especially the ones like Sheridan sold yrs ago? Larry

Yes, 5 mm are still available by H&N in Germany. I have a couple tins of them that I ordered recently off of Amazon.

I have an heirloom Crosman 140. It’s fairly easy to change seals and put back in shooting condition. Parts other than seals are a treasure hunt. If anybody knows a source for the front sight I would be interested, even a cannibalized donor gun would do.

I have a Sheridan Blue Streak from the mid-50's. it still shoots hard and straight. I get the best accuracy with 4 pumps, to cover a quarter at 25'. 8-10 pumps are much less accurate, and may stress the parts too much.
The big old apple tree in the back yard was probably half lead by the time I left home.

An interesting (to me) bit of physics is that all pump up air rifles are pretty inefficient and don’t shoot as hard as we think. Most of the energy input with the pump is lost to heat of compression and warming the metal of the air chamber. One BTU of energy equals 778 ft-lbs of energy, far above the muzzle energy of any pump up pellet gun. Spring piston air rifles achieve much high velocities and energies as the compression and expansion is over in milliseconds before heat and energy is lost to the cylinder. I’ve never chronographed a pump up air rifle, but have read reports that velocities are in the 400 to 500 fps range, higher than the 300 fps that Daisy BB guns squeeze out, but nothing like the near sonic velocities of some springers or pre-charged pneumatics. That’s why all those vigorous extra pumps don’t accomplish a lot in a pumper. They’re still a lot of fun and every young boy’s lust object.

I have a Sheridan blue streak and it is as accurate and hard shooting as any I have had any experience with. I also have a couple of the old Benjamin 22 pistols that are fun. I have been working on the fundamentals of pistol shooting with a daisy 747 in the basement during the winter months. Air guns have their place in any shooters arsenal.

Sheridans
Sheridan 5mm's usually get around 11-12 ft lb of energy. That is 600 to 650 ft per second with 12 to 14 gr pellets. Doesn't sound like much but adequate for rabbits and quail!

I used to have one when I was a kid. They were the Cadillac of pump air pellet rifles back then. It's long gone to who knows where? But I still do have what I would consider the 2nd best of pump air rifles and that's an original Crosman 760 Power Master .177. All steel, brass bolt and wood stock with the wood 'Tootsie Roll' fore end. Circa 1964. Still works like new.

...are you still using the original Sheridan "Ashcan" pellets that came in the screw top tins or yellow box... If so get some H&N or Crossman Premier if you can find them...
Chrono results from some 5mms.... - 24hourcampfire
Love the Sheridans...still have several...

Of the two Crosman's that I ended up with, the Model 140 seems to hold air and work perfectly, but the Model 102 from the 1930's is due for a rebuild.
I just ordered a seal rebuild kit with the Crosman tool to do the job.

I have the Blue Streak with Williams Peep sight from the '50s and still enjoying it. Dropped many a black bird in the back yard as a kid. Also some of the old Sheridan 5mm ammo.

I own a couple of springer guns as well, here are my Beeman R1 (.22 Cal) which was built in 1998 and my Diana Model 45 (.177 Cal) which was built in 1987
I rarely shoot these, but they are pretty cool little guns!

The old Beeman rifles are a blast to shoot very accurate and some hold high value in the collectors market. I the 4 rifle picture the 2nd from the top is a Beeman R8 pretty rare rifle.
