Went to the Winchester Firearms website
to look at Model 70’s.

Low and behold right on the Home page
is an announcement about the new 2024
Winchester Ranger lever action 22lr.

Appears to be a very nice Rifle, best part
it’s solid. Another thing price seems really
reasonable; $419.

Go Team Winchester

The shot show is this week in Lost Wages, NV and I see this new Ranger is being introduced this week. I expect that since the street price will be below 4 benjamins in 2024 money, that this will be no where like the old 9422 of decades ago. I hope I am incorrect, but 4 benjamins does not buy much in 24. I finally purchased a 9422 last year, a true Winchester that lives up to the name. We will see about this cheap Wallyworld special.

I am sitting in the Las Vegas airport waiting for my flight home.

The new Winchester lever .22LR is matte-finished and does not exhibit fine fitting. Gaps are generous. No wood stock. It appears to be built down to a price. It will be fine for its intended market.

Glad I have early examples (NO checkering!) of the 9422/M.

It's not a 9422 and isn't intended to be. It DOES beg to be a saddlering so it can be taken down without tools, and 22 Magnum would be a plus. At it's price point, it will be interesting
.

It's probably made in Turkey, the same as the Wildcat. Winchester states that the barrel is made right next to the barrels for the Wildcat and Xpert. I, personally, don't think it's a bad thing. At the price point it'll probably have some buyers that could not afford a lever action otherwise...

Can you clarify what you mean by “no wood stock”? It says clearly on the Winchester website that it is a hardwood stick…

walnut according to shot show booth video. And steel threaded insert in the billet receiver for the take down screw.
