Bought this some time ago as a partner to the military GB I own. It is an early variant judging by the hammer. The trigger pull is better than the military model. Maybe they put an extra strong hammer spring in the military guns to deal with military primers. Gun is DA/SA with a decocker and has a fixed barrel. It uses a type of gas delayed blowback that is almost unique. Ian at Forgotten Weapons has a neat video that includes the operating principle of the GB at around time index 0:20. Another interesting feature of this pistol is its dual-feed, 18-round magazine that you load just like an AR rifle magazine. I cannot name a current production pistol with the same type of magazine. It is a lot easier on the thumbs that a "normal" magazine, but it is a little fiddly in my experience. Maybe I'm just doing it wrong, who knows.
If the gun looks big in the pictures, that's because it is quite a chunk with a 5" barrel. That said, it only weighs about the same as a Hi Power. That is probably down to the construction. The frame is two pieces of pressed steel welded together. Close examination reveals a seam running up the back of the grip. Speaking of the grip, the gun appears to be set up for "thumbs down" shooting as there just isn't enough space on the forward areas of the frame to rest your thumbs.
This was the only gun to malfunction during my range trip. The second round from the second mag locked up the gun out of battery in some manner. I dropped the mag and had to use a fair bit of force to get the slide back and clear the malfunction. I've never had that kind of malfunction before, only suffering a couple of stovepipes on ejection.
With 124 gr Blazer Brass operation was otherwise flawless with good ejection. Being a military design, the GB is know to sometimes choke on weak sauce commercial 115 gr plinking ammo, so I stick with 124 gr. I did not do any DA shooting as it is unlikely I will ever need to use it as a home defense gun. Accuracy in my hands is pretty good, with any spread being down to me, I'm sure. BTW, the second target picture did have a 1" orange dot in the middle, but my second or third shot popped it off the paper.
