Posting about Skeeter Skelton's birthday (May 1, 1928 ) inspired me to break this one out. He had written a few times about the first pistol he ever shot, an early Colt Woodsman Sport that his dad let him shoot at the city dump. He even mentioned medium barrel which was only available when production began 33/34. This one is 1933, medium barrel, with King front and rear sights (white bead and rear white outline U). Good condition, shot a bit, but still very accurate and a pleasure to shoot! One of my favorites :)

Mine have taken many grouse. I will be selling one as I am starting to reduce my doubles of handguns.

All very nice. Love to see em made again but the price would be say a bit steep!!

Don't have a woodsman but a '61 huntsman 6" barrel Dad bought to teach me to shoot with at 6 years of age . Love that pistol and they are very accurate . specially with ammo they like best . I learned to hunt with mine bring home plenty of squirrels over my younger years . Great triggers in them too .

Simply showing off a cousin. [emoji4]
Brother, first born early one too, with the 6 5/8" pencil barrel. (1915-1922) One of John Moses Browning's masterpieces. Don't forget the 3rd sibling in the 1st series, The Match Target (1938-1945) :) This one with the usual "Elephant ear" grip. You might recognize the fellow wearing one on his hip. I can just see him chootin' jacks out of the tank as they train for the invasion of North Africa.
(Sorry, don't know why it flips on me)

my 1933- first series- Original owner bought it when he was 16. I took It out of safe it was in since 1940 or so. I've had it long enough. He enjoyed it as a kid I was told.
I'm Not really a Colt person- but it's a great example of a first series for someone who loves them.

I remember when I was 16 a friend bought a new 4-1/2" Colt Woodsman and I was lusting after it, but I ended up buying a used Ruger Standard auto .22 that had aftermarket adjustable sights for 70 bucks. I thought the Colt looked a LOT classier then and still do nearly 50 years later and wish I had one.
