Default Glock G44?

I just ordered a G44 for Keegan (grandson, 16 years old) as he wants to venture away from the 22 revolvers and rifles to expand his range of calibers and action types. I thought there was a thread or two on here but I’m not doing something right in the search option. I saw about 4 or 5 UTube videos, one said no, one said he’s had no gun issues, only ammo, and the others were pretty much fine with the guns. This will be for paper punching and getting him used to the semiautomatic operation. The total is about $380, plus my background check, so it’s no skin off my bones if it’s a flop. So, do any of us have bad luck with these pistols? If not, maybe a reliable ammo brand? CCI seemed to be the preferred brand but it’s more expensive.
Any information, good or bad, would be appreciated. Thank you.
Jeff T.

I have 2 of them, run 40 grain hard nose over 1200fps. I’ve never had an issue.

Same here. Bought one when they first came out and it’s been a great shooter.

I've got a recent manufactured one. I'll have to check my documents and logs to give you specifics, but I've been happy with it. CCI Standard Velocity, S&B Club and remington thunderbolt all functioned reliably. I had a pair of failure to eject with a federal 36 grain champion value pack.

Once I dig out my log, I'll try and post actual round counts. But, I've had a lot of fun shooting it and I got lazy on logging.

Well, those three replies give me some hope! I'm not a Glock guy, so to speak, but I'm not anti-Glock or any other brand. So far. I know that Glock has a pretty good reputation for reliability. As I said, it's more of a semi-auto trainer. There's another thread I was looking at today that a member brought up the same subject, more or less, about a small caliber that has an exact, +/-, examples of a small caliber gun with very similar larger caliber; use the smaller caliber to get to know the gun that one would be depending on. I already ordered the G44. Glock seems to have a pretty good following and reputation, so I went there. Thank you guys, as I now feel a little more comfortable spending the $400.
He wants to shoot my Beretta 81 in .32 ACP since he grew comfortable with a .32 revolver. Baby steps, yes, but if one jumps right in and wants the "Dirty Harry Gun," it'll be for sale with a box of 44 magnum cartridges; minus 6 or less. We've all heard of this, I'm sure!
Thanks a lot!
Of course if somebody knows something like a bad chatacassey pin that always needs replaced, etc., I'm all ears.

I have a Glock 44 I bought a year or so ago, it has been a reliable and fun shooter. I keep it in my range bag and shoot it each time I go shooting, got about 1000 rounds through it so far.

I like it so much I bought another one for my Nephew and his kids to shoot, together we compete on falling plates and other shooting games. Cheap ammo gives a lot of training for little money......

Another neat thing about the Glock 44 is that Glock 19 holsters fit, it is the same dimensions as the Glock 19.

I chose not to buy one because I own an Advantage Arms .22lr conversion kit for the Glock 19. It works great but doesn't like bullets lighter than 40 grains. I shoot CCI Mini-Mag 40 grain solids (the recommended ammo) and it works great.

I checked my notes. My pistol has around 1k through it of the rounds I mentioned above. I got it in late 2023 and didn't shoot it until spring 2024.

Only issues was the two FTEs with the federal 36 grain Copper plated JHP champions from a 325 round value pack. SKU # 725.

Mine is about 6 months old and runs flawlessly on CCI 40 gr at 1200 fps. As a side note I have 5 Glock 10 round mags that run with no issues but I also have bought 5 Promag 18 round mags that also run flawlessly, they little button on the side you hold down to load is smaller than the Glock 10 round mags so they are a little harder to load but function fine

Wouldn't you know it: I ordered the new gun Sunday evening, and yesterday, the 1st gun in the Guns For Sale section is a G44 with 3 mags in new condition! Priced a little less than what I paid, but included 3 mags. Of course it sold pretty quickly!

I had one, it was reliable and never once had a malfunction. That said, it didnt shoot good and I think it's three things, one its very light, two the trigger is heavier than a regular Glock (not a by a huge amount, but it's absolutely heavier) and three, it wasnt accurate at all. Sure it could have been me, could have been the cheap bulk ammo, but I shoot the centerfire Glocks just fine. Even tried some nicer .22 ammo and for whatever reason accuracy wasnt impressive at all. Decided my Ruger MkIV is much better, sure they advertise the G44 as a great Glock trainer and it's sort of good at that, I suppose, but the heavy-ish trigger and sub par accuracy was a deal breaker for me.

Somebody explain to me why a brand famous for its magazine capacity across all calibers, has a .22 that OEM Mags just hold 10 rounds! I would have guessed a Glock .22 would hold about a brick of ammo!

I think Glock finally has the kinks worked out of the G44. Mine ran just fine although it is a little bit big for a .22. Adults-only home, so mine had been reposing in an iPad case tucked away in the basement. Just today – since the G44 sold – I put my M&P .22 back in the case where it had been for at least a year or so. The M&P is quite a bit slimmer and smaller overall - and it has been to the range a few times with zero problems. Needless to say, in my retirement community, I don’t expect any problems that a couple rounds of .22 couldn’t solve.

As a New Yorker, I'd say 50 state compliance. I'm stuck with 10 rounds.

That said, I'm suprised they didn't offer a 15 round factory mag option.

Also the Browning Buck Mark, Ruger Mark V, Beretta NEOs, S&W Victory, M&P Compact and S&W 41 are all listed on their manufacturer's website as 10 round capacity. When in Rome, I suppose.

I think it may have something to do with GSSF matches which require only 10 round magazines because of global magazine limitations, 10 round mags are common around the world.

It could also have been an engineering issue getting 15 rounds in a Glock compact size magazine to work 100%.

Add to the list Ruger SR22 with ten round magazine.

Late to the party with my opinion.

Bought mine, part of a two gun trade in at work, got it for cheap.. I don’t think the prior owner knew what to do with a cleaning kit or at minimum a can of Gun Scrubber and oil. Despite that it cycled Federals, Winchester 555’s, Aguila, even a box of Armscor that a customer “tipped” me with as his 10-22 didn’t like them.

My only gripe was the trigger,,even after cleaning it felt gritty. Seeing some witness marks on the left side of the trigger I first took a Dremel to it and the connector with some polish hoping to smooth it out a bit. Second, I installed a Ghost Link, that helped a lot. S-I-L has a Timney in his 44 so I picked up on a Black Friday sale (the one good thing of having Covid that day) online for half price. Installed it and what a change. Only other thing I added was a mag well flare.

I’m shooting this as far out as fifty feet, pretty good for no optics and my old *** vision.

When I think about it there are few high cap magazines for .22 long rifle that work well long term. Maybe the Ruger BX magazines are an exception.

For chuckles and grins I chronoed that 36 grain JHP load, it's showing 926 fps, with an 84 FPS spread and an SD of 27 fps. No malfunctions while firing 100 rounds.

The Autoloaders in .22 seem to prefer copper plated 40 grainers and CCI is 100% reliable. The Glocks are very basic and a good choice especially if 'trigger finger discipline' has been taught.

With a .22 revolver any bullet works, CB Cap, Shorts, Longs or Long Rifle.

Update with our G44 today.
I took the boy out today to play with his new Glock. I initially loaded up the mags with cheap ammo. No issues. Then I used some copper plated CCI 40 gr through it the rest of the time. He even let me shoot it once. So smooth and hits were aimed.
One thing I did was put a couple drops of Balliistol on the slide rails and the magazines. We’re going back out next week one day again.

GLOCK model 44 in 22 cal.
I have had one for a couple of years now, bought it when they first came out. I bought 5 more magazines for this gun. The Glock magazines are easy to load. This gun always seams to make in into my range bag when we go shooting and I have more than a dozen 22 cal guns. It went to the range with my Grandson and I last Friday and we fired more than 300 rounds out of it with no problems. Its a little light though, but no functioning problems with either 36 or 40 grain ammo. Fun gun to shoot!

I had another range session with my G44. Up to 300 rounds with the FED 36gr HPs. Showed 910 FPS avg vel vs 926 from last time. No issues.

Shot CCI STD VEL 40 gr velocity 856fps avg, STD 17.2, spread 66 fps

S&B club 40gr round nose velocity 854 fps, STD 12.7, spread 48 fps.

50 rounds of each, no issues.

The pistol is now well over 1K. I know it's a small amount, but I've only had the pistol since late last year.

We were out today to the rifle range, but we shot 1 mag each and no issues. The other handgun was a GP100 in 327 Federal mag. I actually hit the target out at 50 yards, which is good for me! OKAY, 12" groups, but still! But I kinda like the G44.

ProMag to the rescue with 18 and 25 round mags for G44. They work great.

I finally found a round the g44 didn't like. The Remington thunderbolt BF525. I had multiple failures to extract and feed. It chronoed at 815 fps with and SD of 75.6fps!

I ran rounds from the same box through my 617, and got 929 fps with 81fps SD! I also had some ignition issues with the rounds.

For comparison, the highest SD from a .22 I had previously seen was approximately 25 fps.
