2024 Firearms Review- Let's see what you bought / What did you sell?
Hi all
I'm interested in seeing what firearms you have have purchased or acquired in 2024. Alternatively, what did you get rid of or sell-off?
Just like 2023, I had a slow start to this year. So here is what I bought in 2024:
* S&W Model 3914
* S&W Model 40
* S&W Model 12-2
* S&W Model 28-2
* Heckler & Koch HK4
None of these were expensive buys. I'm still happy to buy "the low hanging fruit" (i.e cheap guns). I did not sell any firearms in 2024.

My Smithalyzer (conveniently located next to the Wayback Machine) shows 45 acquisitions balanced against 32 dispositions for 2024 with 4 days left for corrections in my safe...Sorry, no further data available at this point... ...Ben

Didn't sell any this year...
Bought too many, hard to make a complete accounting!
Here's some:
Smiths....
686-1 Snub
17-6
H-D Transitional
625-3
I built my wife a .223 'precision-lite' rifle
I also went a little crazy with Tisas 1911s... I bought the first on a lark and was so amazed at the quality that I ended up with a bunch.

I got my first ever semi-auto pistol this year in the form of a Glock 33 in .357SIG. I saw it in the display case of a grocery, hardware, gas station, restaurant, post office, gun store on my way to the gym.
I added the +1 mag extensions.
Picked up a 5.56 AR pistol with a 5.5" barrel at gun show for my birthday.

I really couldn't tell you. I buy, trade, swap, whatever all the time. I don't know for sure what I've acquired or gotten rid of this year. I know there was one Colt Python, a new blue one, and a 1964 Model 18-2 with the three T's and target stocks and box numbered to the gun. Then in the last month or so I've picked up a BG-2, a Shield 2.0 PC 9mm, and three EZ's, 9mm, 30 SC and 380 acp. I'm sure there have been others but I don't recall them specifically or what I got rid of to make room.

I had a few come my way this year.
1965 Colt SAA New Frontier 45 Colt
1968 Colt 1911 Super 38
1918 Remington UMC. Not many left with this much original finish.
Almost forgot, a new Kimber K6XS in 38 Special 6 shot.

I got my Remington Rand 1911A1 .45 automatic from the CMP. It seems to be in pretty good shape and shoots pretty well.

Sold a bunch. More than I wanted, that's for sure. Only bought 2.
Ruger Mk. IV 22/45 Lite
Springfield Armory DS Prodigy.
Spent my money on mags and optics, holsters and ammo, and other whizzbang tactical accessories.

It was a good year for me. Some strange or hard to find handguns made their way into the safe after a few years of not really finding many.
Bought:
14-3 6" SAO
627-PC 5" pre-IL forged frame (grail gun for a long time)
57 4" (missed on a couple of 657 3" auctions...not a bad consolation prize)
Triple Lock .455 Bisley 6.5" shaved to .45ACP/AR
Bernardelli Model 80 .32ACP (consolation for missing on a Benelli M77...but it's not a very good compromise)
17 no dash converted to .17HMR (not here quite yet)
While I add cash to the gun fund, I did end up selling a bunch, especially the older fixed sight guns.
Sold:
627-5 5"
M&P .38 from 1917
early 1917 .45ACP
postwar H-D 5"
14-4 8-3/8"

Thanks all for your participation. It’s New Years Eve here in Australia. I’ve just been and bought 2000 x Federal Small Pistol Primers so I think that wraps it up for my 2024!

Happy New Year Moo Moo! We have a bit of a wait here....
Bought several but my favorite is my Drilling. Haven't fired it yet but I did manage to find a couple boxes of 9.3x72R for it.

Sold a S&W 940, Glock 42, Ruger LCP Max, a couple of S&W 3913s, a CZ Rami.
Purchased and currently own an Sig P365 with standard and extended grips, a 4 inch blued Ruger Security Six and about a year ago I got my 1976 Browning Hi Power back. After years of trading I can say that I’m pretty confident and content with my choices. Don’t think there’s anything that can be improved upon as far as my NEEDS are concerned. In a few years a S&W EZ9 may be added due to hand issues. Need to add a good bolt action rifle to the arsenal. Not sure that I will be buying or selling anything else for at least a couple of years.

I don't sell my guns. Give them away, lose them, let someone borrow them, but sell, nope not my style.
Added a Remington M-8 chambered for .35 Remington.
Won on a drawing ($40.00 out of pocket) a Beretta M-84 .380.
Both used, but in good condition.

Dry year for my milsurp addiction. Money had to go to house repairs and prices have been stupidly lately. I did pick up an AR15 lower as a hedge against an anti-gun election result, and I scored a $82 SCCY CPX2 MKIII a store was selling from a collection. Fired very little, came with the box, papers, and spare mag.

I believe I bought a M27-2 5" in the early part of the year, and 2 Dan Wesson M1911's . One in 9mm, the other in 45acp.
I spent a lot of time looking at revolvers, but just could not find any I wanted. This year will see me drop a few revolvers

Three semi-autos, after telling myself over a year ago I wasn't buying anything in 2024. Bought a Taurus TX22 back in the summer, dumped 500 rounds through it, liked it. Then the same store had a two-tone (old new stock) on sale $60 cheaper! Grabbed it as well. Then - Ruger released the RXM, so I now own my first Glock 19 clone, with a better trigger and straighter grip. I like it too.
Just buying 22LR and 9mm ammo in 2025...

What I bought in 2024
Taurus 856 Defender 38Special 6 shot revolver. 3 inch barrel.
Nice enough revolver but had to have my gunsmith lighten the trigger pull . I’m guessing the double action pull was about 14 lbs.
Now SA pull 6 LBS 12 Oz. DA pull 10Lbs 8.0 Ozs. Also had to replace the grip because the factory grip positioned my hand so that the cylinder release bloodied my thumb knuckle.
Also bought a Diamondback SDR .357 Revolver . I chose the one with the Black Nitride finish which makes it very easy to clean and is extremely wear resistant. Weight 21 ozs J frame sized . 6 round capacity Factory SA trigger pull 4LBS 15 ozs DA 9Lbs 14 ozs , very smooth and does not stack . Fiber optic sights are very easy and for my 76 year old eye to see. I am carrying it a lot..
I ready like this revolver. 🥰

The Marlin .357 lever rifle I ordered in the spring of 2020, or more precisely, a close variant finally came in about a month ago. I did the Washington background and waiting period, during which I am having some smithing done by the shop.
I am now out of commission for shooting due to an ill-considered fight with the garage floor, which I lost. The surgery is next week. It caused a lot of other problems which frustrate me and can't really be described without upsetting the mods.
I am considering selling my 625-6 which was stolen and recovered, then fixed by BMCM. Silly emotional response, but I don't feel a connection to it now.

Even worse; I had to pay for it up front. I had worked on it about 12 years ago when I was co-owner of a gun shop. The owner is a fair friend, and he only charged me the cost for a refinished rifle. Yes, I'm going to tell you.......$150.00. Honest to Gawd, thaats all.

Hope you are “on the mend” and can get to finally use the .357mag Marlin you have been waiting for since 2020.

Moo Moo: Thanks. Consult and surgery are 1/9 and 1/10. Of all the collateral effects, the delay in transplant is the least bothersome. Not being able to drive the platform for our RV, losing my condition, and not being able shoot the Marlin and the impact on my accumulated leave are all worse.

Sometimes there is a loooong dry spell and other times, it’s hard not to trip over them. 2025 has started out even better. A High Standard shotgun at a New Year’s Day auction, and a S&W Pre-18 on Jan 2. Those are two guns that have been at the top of my priority list for years and I’ve come up dry. Now watch, I won’t get anything for months.

I just added two pistols. One is a SIG Sauer P220S Sport from the old Mastershop in Eckernförde. I had been inside that factory and saw how the guns in the mastershop were assembled and was impressed.
The other is a Nowlin Action Elite in .45 ACP that impressed me with its quality and fit.

Not Much, But A Good One
I haven't been doing much buying since retiring, but I did stumble across a great deal on this superb condition Remington 81 Woodsmaster in .300 Savage.

On the deficit side, I didn't sell anything, but I "re-homed" a couple .22s to some good friends with kids just coming up on shooting age. One was a Ruger Wrangler and the other was a Marlin Glenfield M75.

I bought about a dozen guns in 2024, and consigned seven for sale on GunBroker to Sarah15 (Jim Brewster on this Forum).
The interesting thing to me is that the first gun that I bought in January was a 2" Taurus revolver in .327 Federal Mag, and the last gun that I bought in December was a Henry Big Boy with a 20" barrel in... .327 Federal Mag.
