The process of buying a suppressor and the ATF
In another Post I talked about building my AR 15 pistol in .300 AAC (Blackout) over the Holidays. This pistol is intended for home defense and vehicle use with subsonic ammunition, plus it's just plain cool. The build is substantially complete, so it was time for me to purchase my first suppressor.
Since my son manages a local gun store, finding a suitable suppressor was no problem...and I purchased a Silencerco Omega 300 (Direct Thread). Like other gun stores, his store has a dedicated work station for submitting forms to the ATF, which includes Form 4 (required for suppressors). The work station allows the staff and purchasers to take digital finger prints, photos, fill out the forms electronically, and pay the $200 ATF tax stamp via credit card. After all information is double checked, the work station sends the entire package electronically to the ATF. The entire filing process took approx. 30 minutes, and almost immediately the ATF emailed me that my form had been submitted and was in process! Easy peasy.
The ATF has streamlined their review and approval process, and most Forms are approved in 2-5 days. A big improvement from just a couple of years ago and if the ATF would just remove suppressors from the NFA it would be even simpler!

NFA items have been one of the few things that inflation has benefitted vs. harmed due to the unchanging dollar amounts for the stamps.
And the kiosks are pure American ingenuity; if left to Uncle Sam, we'd have to travel hours to some federal building, stand in a long line to get our paperwork, fill it out, then stand in another long line only to be told that everyone went on lunch, or we'd forgotten some piece of ID, et cetera.

I'm in the same boat for the same reason, I have a DDM4 300 BO pistol, but I'm just waiting to see if something to our advantage happens soon?

I’m guessing a Silencershop kiosk.
My first suppressor was/is a Harvestor Evo, as I was thinking only 300BLK, 223.
Having a redo I would have bought a Harvestor 46M or a Harvestor 46 DT. That would have taken me up to 45 cal for pistol caliber rifles.

That sounds much quicker than the process i went through maybe 7 yrs ago. If memory serves waited over a year, and that was with the shop doing all the paperwork including a trust,

How bout an integrally suppressed AR45?
Or maybe a Tac-Sol X-22 with a SiCo Spectre II?

I have a Nomad 30 coming from The Silencer Shop. I did the final step yesterday. Now I sit and wait to see if “The Powers That Be” judge me to be of high enough moral standing to be able to own a gun muffler. No word today. And Mon is MLK day, so l sit and wait. The Nomad 30 is going on an ArmaLite AR-10, 16 inch in 308. Ought to be good fun.
Does anyone have a gas buster charging handle recommendation for an AR-15?
On another side note: Varget in an AR-15 is pretty clean, not much gas/smoke. I get screaming velocities from CFE223. But CFE223 smokes me out!

I use Radian Raptor SDs on my ARs, and they're reasonably effective, but the best answer is an adjustable gas block correctly adjusted for suppressed operation.

I really like the Dead Air Nomad 30, but it was too fat to fit inside my carbon fiber hand guard. My 10" hand guard is 2" longer than the end of my 8" bbl., so the suppressor must fit into it. I compounded the problem by installing an M-lok Magpul flip up front sight which has a nut and protruding screws and further restricts the internal diameter of the handguard. After I ground down and polished the protruding Magpul sight screws flush with the nut, the resulting internal diameter of my handguard is 1.6". Unfortunately, the Nomad 30 is 1.7" dia. However, the Omega 300 that I purchased is 1.57" dia. and fits nicely. I should be able to pick up my suppressor on Tuesday, so I'll post more pics.

May I ask if this was a Individual or Trust purchase?

Last month I set up a trust and filed my Form 4 for a SureFire .22 caliber SF Ryder 22-S on December 20th and received my approval on January 3rd.
On Tuesday January 14th I filed my Form 4 for a SureFire SOCCOM 556 RC2 and received my approval on Friday January 17th.
It seems as if the ATF is moving pretty quickly on these items.

I am having the opposite experience. I filed on November 1st and still have nothing to show or it. I filed as an individual.
It is my first NFA item…is this the reason?

I have the opposite problem. Ordered an integral barrel/suppressor for my Buckmark. It's been on back order for months.

Give them a call. I bought a suppressor last May. Didn't hear anything for a couple months. Called and was told it had been approved two days after I had bought it. Neither me or the retailer had been notified.
She sent an email to the seller while I was on the phone with her and I went that afternoon and picked up the suppressor.

I write NFA Trusts routinely. The client LGS never tells me how long it takes but I think it's not unreasonable.
HOWEVER!
Wait a little while and I think you'll see suppressors removed from the NFA list. There's a new Sheriff in town...............

I agree, there must be a mixup or the ATF just didn't inform you of their approval. The ATF website (also on their eForms site) has some contact phone numbers to follow up on your submission. Good luck!
When I electronically submitted my Form 4 last week, I immediately received an email from the ATF that my completed Form and payment had been received and were "Submitted/In Process". However, when I checked the ATF website under "Submitted/In Process", there is no form on file. A guy that bought a suppressor the same day as I did received his approval in 2 days. I'll be calling the ATF on Tuesday if I don't hear from them sooner.

If I remember correctly you won’t see anything in your ATF account because it was filed through a dealer.
Both you and the dealer will receive an email when approved. That was my last one in 2024.

The YKM Resonator I just received for my 8-1/2" barrel 300 Blackout was very quick and easy at my local gunshop. I think the whole process took about two weeks to get my can and my gun shop charged me $312 which included the tax stamp, gun shop fees, form fees, and trust fees. I was thrilled!

I'm putting mine on a 7.63x39 AR15 with an 18 in bbl.. The only way to get "quiet" is go subsonic. (Below 1100 FPS) Recipes call for a real heavy for caliber bullet......At these slow velocities 100 accuracy is about all you can expect.....At further distances the bullet drops like a rock....I plan on using mine super sonic with a NV scope.....I'll still get the bullet crank as it breaks the sound barrier. But I won't get that big rolling boom.
Iffen ya really want smile and giggle...Get a Dead Air Mask in .22 cal.. With SV .22 bullets it sounds like a staple gun.

and check your spam folder for an approval email.

I biought one last year after the supposed streamlined process using the Silencer Shop kiosk at the dealer, still took 4 months while others were coming back in under 7 days, go figure.

ATF Approval was fast...
Submitted my Form 4 last Thursday morning, and had my ATF approval on Tuesday morning (that included a weekend and the MLK Day holiday and Trump Inauguration). Picked up my Silencerco Omega 300 suppressor and installed it today. A guy that filed his Form 4 just before I did had his approval on Saturday morning (2 days!).
