Got a new lever gun and just wanted to share
This one will be on duty here at the house until the grandson shoots his first deer, then I’ll be short another 30-30…
This one dates to 1956 and is in great condition
Just finished loading a few to try out tomorrow
Would love to see yours and if you hand load by all means please share your favorite loads

Great M94 from a great era of production. I've been watching the prices online creep up for several years. They are getting rather spendy! A nice one is a bargain at almost any price, however.

Isn't the rifle in the OP a Winchester?

It appears so.

I had a number of old Winchesters and Marlins at one time, but my interests changed. I still have a Marlin 336A (the longer rifle version) as well as a 336 and 1894 in 44 magnum.

If you can tell by my username that I am slightly fond of the cartridge. I have carried a prewar 94 carbine across the Rocky Mountains for 4 decades. Didn't do much hunting with it but carried it as a meat backpacking carbine and as an "adventure " rifle. Pre 64 model 94's are superb arms and surprisingly accurate. Loaded with 6 cartridges in the pantry and an additional 5 or 6 in your front pocket, a decent sized pocketknife, and a small set of binoculars, is all you need for a day in the deer woods. I have loaded a wheelbarrow of 30-30's. My go to load is any 150-grain bullet and 32 grains of H-335.

I have a few more lever rifles but I'll stick to this .30-30 here. It accounted for a couple of deer some years ago....oh, and I never hand load, I'd never trust any ammunition I hand loaded, I barely trust myself with a screwdriver......... :D

I only have a few lever action guns (sorry for the poor pics!)...

Winchester Model 1873, 3rd Model, .38-40, ca. 1891
Winchester Model 1876, 3rd Model, .50-95 Express, ca. 1882
Winchester 94AE Trail's End, .45 Colt, 1996
Century Arms PW87, 12 gauge, 2018

I would like to add a pre-war Model 94 someday, perhaps .30-30.

Aside from a selection of 70's through 90's version, went modern for new 45-70

I have a couple of Rossi 92's in 45 Colt and one stainless in 357 pre-lock. A Uberti copy of 1873 in 44 Special, a Mariko labeled Browning 1886 in 45-70. Marlins? a 1894 CL in 32-20, an 1894 CB 45 Colt "Cowboy Special" and a very early 1895 Guide Gun in 45-70 with factory porting.

Owned Marlin 336 in 35 Remington, 336 in 32 Win Special, a 336 and a 1894 both in 44 mag, an 1894 in 44-40, a whole slew of 1894's in 357 mag, a Mariko labeled Winchester 1886 Take Down in 45-90 and a Mariko labeled Browning 92 in 44 Mag. Never had a lever gun in 30-30 or 22 RF.

Worst kicking Lever Gun? Marlin1894's and Browning 92 in 44 Mag using 1990's production S&W 240 gr factory ammo, way out kicks (felt recoil) hot reloads in the 45-70 Guide Gun!

Ivan

ETA: I had a BLR 81 in 308 Win also, but a friend thought he should own it, so about 10 years ago I sold off just under 50 guns, and that was one of them. Gun Shot great! But it had been around 20 years since I shot it.

As a rookie sheriff's deputy nearly 30 years ago I carried a Winchester 94 in .357 magnum in my patrol car for a short period. Still have the rifle and have taken several whitetail deer and feral hogs with it.

This Texan was made in the mid 70s. I got it off Gunbroker. It had a scope rail on it when I got it. It looked unfired. Whether it was or not will remain a mystery because I shoot my guns. Anyway, since it had the rail on it, I thought I scope it for accuracy testing.

This one really likes the Hornady 160 FLXT. We center punched a deer walking right towards me shortly after I got it.

I am of the opinion that most leverguns should wear a receiver mounted peep.

*I have a Win 1892, 44 Mag, with the curved steel butt plate. Without the limb saver slip on pad, it is no fun! The Marlin 30-30 is a kitty cat by comparison.

Am a firm believer in the advantages of open sights right over the bore.

Leverguns have always been my favorite type of long gun. I have them mfg from 1890 to 2019. Currently have them in .22LR, .250 Savage, .30-30, .303 Savage, .300 Savage, .308 Win, .32-20, .32-40, .32 Win Special, .357 Mag, .35 Remington, .358 Win, .375 Win, .38-40, .40-82 Win, .44-40, .44 Mag, .444, .45 Colt and .45-70. The majority (21) are .30-30. It's an easy round to reload and it's fun plinking with cast bullets. My favorites are the old, octagon barrel ones with tang sights.
