Default Under desk holster?

My law partner is an extremely busy divorce attorney. She occasionally has to deal with unrepresented individuals and some of them can be a bit unhinged. She is looking for a holster to attach to her desk to hold a Sig 365. As with many women, when she carries it, she has it in her purse. She recognizes that isn't realistic to reach if things become heated in her office. Any ideas for a good desk holster?

There are several rubber coated magnet devices that can be bolted up to a good spot under the desk. Makes it very easy to take it from her purse and snap it into place.

That is what I use for my shield .45. Works like an absolute champ

I have a magnet attached to the side of my keyboard holder under my desk. Holds my 365XL without any movement.

I still have the screw holes in the side of my desk for first a j-frame, and later my 365XL. Always feared the magnet would disturb my computers. Then after looking up some of the math on magnets, realized that after just a inch or so, they don't affect anything.

The magnet has the advantage that it doesn't have a holster pull, and can be grabbed with either hand easily.

Strange. That reminds me of Clint Eastwood's movie "Unforgiven":

Little Bill Daggett: You just shot an unarmed man.

Bill Munny: He should have armed himself if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend.

I have a gun magnet attached to the side of my couch, where a PX4 resides 24/7. (no youngsters, just me and the wife) No holster required and the handgun is readily available, yet mostly obscured by the end table.

I think they are perfect for "under desk/dashboard/bedside" locations as well.

I acquired several hard drive magnets that a guy was stripping for the metals in them. They are as strong as those made for it. I slide a piece of shrink wrap over it and shrink it down. I have one on my computer desk with a Sigma 40, another under the kitchen counter with another sigma 40. I have one in my shop with a single shot 12 gauge cut to 20" with extra rounds in the stock band under my work bench. Always a few steps from a weapon. They are not in holsters, just stuck to the magnet.

The desk magnet seems like an excellent idea.

SteveA, perhaps you or someone else in the office should be carrying at all times as well? And install a panic button system that silently calls the police as part of your security? It is sad, but churches have to do this kind of thing everywhere now.

I carry as often as feasible. Multiple trips to the courthouse (across the street) daily limit that as there is a strict no firearms rule in the courthouse. I have several weapons in my office (including a M-1 rifle right now), and one secretary carries as well.

Good realistic question. For years I screwed a holster alongside my bed rail and have had a model 10 under a desk also. These new powerful magnets are an even better solution. I've read several stories though about desk guns though where the user did not have time to get a gun that was very close by. Think about a knife attack. Your waistband or pocket is the absolute, best place for a gun. We also need to be mindful about kids. They will crawl under a desk. Even in an office I could imagine a cleaning lady coming in with her kids after hours. Stuff like that happens.

I used one of the cheap $10 magnets (from eBay I think) on side of my pickup console. It held a j frame and 365 while moving and bouncing down road. It’d be perfect under a desk

I think OP was implying she wants to put her gun under desk when she is sitting there across from somebody. I don’t think she intends to leave it there. Especially when unattended

Do gun slides contain iron?

I recall seeing years ago that you can magnetize metal using a magnet if the metal contains iron.

I've never tried it but wouldn't want to ruin a slide by keeping a magnet hooked to it, if that could happen.

Bald1 is correct. This is just while she is in the office. It otherwise goes with her on her person.

Yes, they are steel. Never seen any magnetizing issues with mine.

Slides are too big to magnetize. It's possible that a small point might be affected, but usually not, unless the magnet is really strong, such as a bulk demagnetizer like something used to wipe VHS tapes.

I used to magnetize screwdriver tips on purpose to help me on repair jobs. It wears out fairly quickly.

Having a pistol holster under a desk is convenient however there will be times she leaves it there while she is not really in her office. That is the part I am not fond of. It's just too easy to leave it there by accident or when called into a conference room, a partner's office, when out to lunch, the ladies room, etc. How about if she has to leave the office in a hurry and she forgets to take it home, then what? Not a good idea to leave a loaded pistol in an unattended office building after hours.

Although it is a bit more difficult for a woman to carry concealed (got that), I still frown upon any sort of off the body carry method like a briefcase, handbag, overcoat, glove compartment, drawer etc. as they are too easily accessed, stolen, lost or left somewhere. She should really find a way to have it on her person and learn how to access it rapidly in the office. Just my personal opinion for what that's worth.......

The first thing that I would do is take gun safety and shooting classes. Next, I'd have a security system to allow me to open my door only when I buzzed people in, as well as a camera. The last thing would be to make my desk bullet resistant. Any holster or gun magnet would do to keep my gun handy. She has plenty of money to do this if she is a successful divorce lawyer.

Does the lawyer have someone that cleans her office? I’d be worried someone may steal it. I’d maybe leave it in my desk drawer.

I agree with the magnet to hold the gun. It works very well.

Wow, why is that you guys ASSUME the female attorney would be lackadaisical about her gun? I have no reason to believe she’d be any more careless than you or i. When a person of questionable character comes into her office she simply wants a gun handy WHILE SITTING AT HER DESK. It’s a leap to think she’d leave it there for the cleaning person to access.
