A Berretta 686 (Silver Pidgin) or Browning Citori O/U's (Upland Special & Feather XS) have lifespans in the several hundred thousand shots range. I have or had both brands in 28 gauge. After 8 years of the Berretta and 30+ years on Brownings. They are still just getting broken in!
Huglu shotguns are much better than 20 years ago! But, their lifespan is in the tens of thousands. Price will reflect this!
Youth Shooting stocks: A friend had 5 sons, and then 8 grandson and two granddaughters that shot with him. He was a SKB SxS guy and took a lower grade SKB 28" SxS and had a gunsmith cut the stock to 12-year-old boy specks, Planning on adding the chunk back on with they grew. It turned out that for 40 years he had shooters that fit the short gun.
My sons and nephew started Sporting Clays at 13 or 14 years of age. My kids are Tall! And fit adult guns. My Nephew is shorter and used a 20-gauge fit to his mom until he fit 14 1/2" LOP. (I use 14 3/4"LOP, My boy-now mid 40's-use 14 3/4" to 15" LOP)
28 gauge can break anything and everything on a Skeet Ring and Singles Trap. Sporting Clays, some of the longer shots are tough! Forget #9 shot, stick with 8's, @ 1200-1300 fps (depending on the sport) Longshot is my powder of choice, in 4 and 8 pound jugs!
