What brand knife?

I've been carrying either a Chinese made Spyderco (a lot cheaper to bust up or lose than the good ones but it still has g10 scales and good steel. Cost less than $30) or my ESEE Izula in my pocket these days.

Tapatalk ate my spelling and grammar.

Spyderco Black Military made in Golden - Colorado - USA - Earth !
Well at least this is what is written on the blade !
Regards, Ray.

I am a Kershaw guy. I often carry a Kershaw leek. For my groomsman at my wedding I bought them each an engraved Kershaw chive. They were very well received. They are smaller, but they are a nice little option for pocket carry. Still for every day carry I prefer the leek.

I carry several but my favorite all purpose is a Benchmade 585 serrated edge. I like the serrated edge for pruning tomato suckers, deadheading geraniums and cutting rope. I also like Kershaws and agree that the Leek is a dandy.

I have a modest collection of lockback folders. These include some Kershaws and other brands.

My hunting knife is a Buck Ranger.
Daily carry knives are a two-bladed Browning with the larger blade a lockback, and a Dozier Design Ka Bar lockback. The Ka Bar is
quite slim and light and has a thumb stud for ease of opening.
It also has a pocket clip but I never use it.

The Browning was made in Japan. The Ka Bar in Taiwan. The Buck
is USA made. I used to carry the Buck Ranger but it wore out my
pockets and is a bit heavy.

Sharpened up the Browning just before the small game opener.
(First time since last fall.)
Dressed a grouse that evening and it is still nice and sharp.

Good knives all.

Well, that is certainly original! :D. Maybe pimentos next time?

...I also have a Kershaw that I like, but the Gerber is lighter and slimier.

Hmmm.... Whatcha been up to with that Gerber, young man? :D

(No offense, fellas, but some of the typos are pretty funny!)

I like bucks and gerbers...the american made ones..
But I carry a Victorinox, 9 tools plus the toothpick and tweezers, I got it from a guy in South Carolina, it was a TSA seized knife that he buys in bulk and sells, I gave $12 and it looked like brand new..

I had similar good fortune and bought about ten such knives in various models and sizes. I pawed throrugh the buckets until I found knives with little use. In a few cases, I had to polish out some small scratches or scuffs with Simichrome metal polish, but it worked. I have in all maybe 20 Victorinox knives and a few Wengers. Some were bought new, but are still excellent values.

Whenever I carry a Stockman or Trapper pattern, I need some tool that I'd have had if I'd carried a Victorinox. These days, that's about all I carry in a basic pocket knife.

I also carry a larger folder in a discreet belt pouch that passes for a cell phone. My favorites are a Benchmade Model 710 and a Gerber Applegate-Fairbairn, the latter in all three sizes. The little one goes in a coat pocket and I wear either the large or the medium one on my belt. But be careful, lest some cop think the Gerbers represent a "dagger" although the false edge isn't sharp.

My son wears a Benchmade Axis lock item with a tanto shaped blade. It proved very effective when he was attacked by a coydog or big feral dog one dark night. You just never know when you may need a good knife!

Oh: I sometimes wear a Puma lockblade with white handle scales that otherwise much resembles a Buck Model 110. Or their Model 943, an older one that was a gift from Baron von Frankenburg und Ludwigsdorf when he was president of Puma, which has since changed hands. (He had married into the Lauterjung family, which founded Puma in 1769. The company was sold sometme in the 1990's, I think.)

And I have a small Fallkniven U-2 folder with a high tech black synthetic handle and a laminated steel blade that came VERY sharp. It is lightweight, and was designed to be the most effective knife that can be carried in certain Euro nations. Fallkniven and Puma knives are not inexpensive, but are worth the money, I think. Go here and push the right buttons to see their line. I think you'll be impressed: www.fallkniven.com

Be aware that prices on the site are in Swedish kroner. US dealers usually charge from $125-450 for various sheath knives. I haven't checked prices on folders. (My U-2 was a gift.)

Well looking for a decent pocket knife. What I am looking for is a folder with pocket clip and slim. What brand do you guys reccomend? Looking at the Kershaw,H&K,Gerber.

I carry and use a small pocket knife everyday. I carry a Case.
Easy to sharpen, etc. Used it for about anything. Small, light, and sharp! I like a knife that I don't know I'm carry until I need it.
Check out Case! My first boy scout knife was also a Case!

I'm fast approaching 65 and am apparently old beyond my years.

I have arthritis and just can't push the thumb stud or get a thumb grip on the Spydy Hole anymore. Actually, I can do it, just takes a while.

So, almost from their inception, I've carried Benchmades with the Axis lock. Just pull it out, back pressure on the "lock" then snap the wrist and it is open and locked.

Very fast and safe. I have three, a big one, small one, and one that's just right. Sounds like Goldilocks, huh?

Try one and see if it works for you.

Bob-

Do you mean the Axis lock? Does the Warren Osborne-designed model use a different lock? I haven't studied the Benchmade line extensively, but thought the Axis lock was on most of their lockblade folders.

My price range I am trying to be in is $50 or less. I would just use the knife for opening boxes, mail, Cutting the plastic wrap off skids. And I hate the folding utility blade knifes.

Think about a Spyderco or Kershaw. Both have good steel, and are not so expensive as to make you afraid to use them. The Ken Onion series of Kershaw (chive, leek, etc.) are assisted opening, and have a scale lock system. Most of the Spydercos I have seen are a spine lock system.

I had a US made Gerber for years, it was very good, I wanted something bigger so bought another Gerber, similar but larger. It was made in China, there is no comparison between the two! The China model went into a tool box the old USA model back in my pocket.

I never thought I like it but, I won a small CRKT with a clip on it and I love it. Now I would only buy a pocket folder with a clip.

Get something that fits your hand. You would not shoot well with a mis-fitted grip, why would you try for comfort with someone else's recommendations? Cold Steel works for me.

My daily carry in a small case three blade small easy to carry. I carry a 45 year old buck lock back, carried that and a k bar while in vietnam. These are for hunting, yard work went i am wearing jeans.

I use a pocket knife every day, and I loose them with annoying frequency.

I am a big fan of the SOG "auto-clip" and was pleased to see it return to their catalog after a long absence, albeit made in China.

But they are now so inexpensive and still very good, that I can afford to buy them a half dozen at a time...
