These pictures have to come with a story.

I'm guessing handloads.... double charge maybe?

They were my dads reloads. I pulled the two next to it and they both had 6 grains of what looked like unique. That was his standard load, 5.9 Unique.

I liked the gun for the first box and a half of ammo. Trigger was good 4.5 lbs. single action and had an overcenter feeling double action. It was shooting good groups low right.

I had some 146 LRN factory. They pulled out of the case and tied up the gun. I shot those one at a time.

Going to send it back to the factory simply to get it off my permit so I can replace it or perhaps get them to use the good parts so I can save a few bucks. I blame no one. Stuff happens.

Fixed or replaced, I will keep a bulldog. I did like the gun and always wanted one.

I poured the contents of two rounds and it did fit in the case although it would have been a compressed load.

These were loaded by the guy that taught me how to reload in 1985. It could happen to anyone.

Always a story.

I picked up the gun Tuesday evening. Went to the range Wednesday morning before work with 3 boxed of ammo. Got through one and a half trouble free.

Any casualties?

Too bad this happened. It stands as a reminder we always need to be doubly careful in our reloading practices.

I reload too. I keep thinking to myself that it's not a matter of "if" I'll ever throw a double charge, but "when". i try to look before I set the bullets. But I bet I forget at times, and I should use bulkier powders too. It's easy to do. I've caught myself doing it with the .44-40.

Thanks for the post, that will sober me up through the winter reloading session. Hope you didn't get hurt. Wonder if you'll have a nasty flinch next time at the range?

Hey David,

I am really glad you were not hurt. And sorry about the Bulldog. Thanks for sharing the experience with us. Definitely a wake up call for those of us that reload.

Be well and happy thanksgiving all.

The recoil of the smaller revolver must have been snappy enough to.result in bullet pull with the LRN offering. I am guessing that they were not well crimped? Years ago you used to see that sometimes with Airweights.

I would be curious as to what Charter does. Technically the use of reloaded ammunition probably voided the warranty.

Some scary stuff right there!! So glad you are ok, and yes a good reminder to all of us that reload!

WHO LET THE DOGS OUT woof woof woof woof!:D

I've not yet thrown a double load, but early on I threw a couple of no-loads. What I do now is charge the cases by the fifties, and with all fifty cases in the loading block, inspect them with a flashlight, up one row and down the next. They need to look all the same. Then I place the bullets, if that's practical, or seat bullets from the loading block, without interruption.

Hope this helps.
