Now I have always thought that people who owned a DE chambered in anything bigger than a .44 were wanna be action stars. Until this week when a friend of a friend who had one for sale made me a deal I couldnt pass up. I paid 750 for this big baby. I take it to the range in a few weeks. Now Ill shut up and show her off.

I actually just sold my Desert Eagle .50. I totally forgot about it until someone mentioned one in a thread. I hadn't fired it in years! (Probably not what you want to hear after just buying one! I didn't have any problems with it, I just never got into it.)

I'm considering putting the money toward a .500 Mag, but figure it could turn into another one I don't often use........

A friend has one and his had a wierd recoil. It would go up and twist to my right. Nice gun for the price!

Nice find. Good price. The ammo, of course, is now really expensive. I shot a 50 DE back in 1994-95 at a local range that had a lot of rental guns. One heck of a powerful pistola.

I had one, it shot 4" right & 3" high at 25yds with multiple brands of ammo. The 350gr bullets were the worst, cases would eject straight back into my forehead; one left a nice little cresent moon cut directly in the middle of my forehead...that was enough for me.

A very accurate and well made piece IMHO. My experience with it was two shots. I hit bullseye everytime at 20 yds but I could not control the pistol during recoil.

To this day, it is the only handgun I have ever fired that I could not control during recoil.

It was fascinating to see the operating sequence and see fire coming out of every opening. Cycling appeared so slow you could actually watch it, unlike with "normal" semi-autos.

Cartridge would be very useful in a lever action rifle. But the pistol itself was very heavy and almost the weight of a small rifle itself.

The Desert Eagle is for the "Size Does Matter" moments.

But you can also enjoy 50 caliber power in a more reasonable package, like this Freedom Arms 500 Wyoming Express 4.75" compared to a 3" S&W 686. I have not measured velocities from my gun yet, but my estimate based on factory load data is 400-440 gr at 1300-1400 fps, maybe a bit more than that.

Recoil? If you have to ask, you do not need to know.

Just yesterday I was testing loads with a new 400 gr bullet. I do not dare to shoot this monster from seated support so I have to shoot offhand. I happened to have a target set up at 15 yards and was quite happy with the off hand result.

The next load did not go so well anymore, I flinched the third shot. But the gun has potential.

Desert Eagle

I had a 50AE about ten years ago,an aquaintance needed money and I picked it up cheap,came with a coffee can of reloads.It was lots of fun to shoot,less recoil than I expected.More like a shotgun recoil.I had to sell it though,it printed when I carried it in my front pocket.
