I guess from looking at the posts I can start a tread on something other then S&W Semi Auto's. I picked up my Sig Sauer P228 Swiss Police Trade in from my FFL the other day and installed night sights on it and Hogue finger groove rubber grips. I plan after testing and several range sessions to put this in my carry rotation.

Very nice. Is that the 9mm?? I havent shot a Sig yet, but I have been eyeing a P220. Let me know how it shoots. If you dont mind me asking how much was it?? It looks very good with the grips as well. Thanks

It's a 9mm and came with a (2) standard 13 round mags for $499. I also bought (4) Mec-Gar 15 round mags for $22 each.

Where did you purchase the MecGar's from? I recently purchased a two-tone, DAO, Sig P228 former LE gun from South Carolina.

I purchased them from Top Gun Supply and for $22 and change he had the chrome mags as he was out of the blued ones.

fyimo, I bought this Blackhawk holster for my Sig P228. I like the built in mag holder. Slightly bulky, but I have a few other handguns to carry in warm weather so I do not worry about it much.

Sig

Sigs are wonderful pistols ..... and I came this close.. .. to buying one .... but, picked up a 1911 the same day..... :)

Sweet gun. Ive heard nothing but good things on Sigs. My next purchase will be either a Sig or HK.

I have owned five Sigs, one .P239 .40 S&W, three P225's and one P228. I sold the P239 a few years ago. I like what I have now, and will keep them. I would like a P245 too. I also have two HK P7 PSP's. Fine guns, all of them, but my S&W #908 is still my main carry piece.

Congrats on your new piece, I should have bought one back when they were $275 each.

I love my P226.

After a lifetime (literally) of carrying weapons professionally, I have Smiths, Sigs, Colts, and who knows what else in various safes and crannies. I have found out that Sigs are very good weapons indeed, however they hold nothing over 3rd gen Smiths, which are as good as they get. I even find myself packing a Smith auto in lieu of my all time favorite the Browning HP. I base my opinions on something simple, can I hit with it? I have retired my Colt Commander in favor of my Sig 220 SAO, but it has nothing on my Smith 45 autos. Not accuracy, not reliability, concealability, or anything else. And Smith customer service has it all over Sigs, by a furlong or so.
For a full size auto the Sig 220 and Smith 645/4506 are neck and neck, with an edge going to the Smith IMHO.
I was extermely sorry to see Smith stop making the metal frame guns, but the realities of the marketplace prevail over all of us.

Fyimo, I too picked up, new to me, two W. German P228's last week in 95-98% condition. I bought some extra Mec-Gar mags. I even tried one of those 17 rd 9mm mags for a 229 which fit like a glove and funny thing is it holds 18 rounds. I'm a Smith revolver, 3rd gen auto and Sig guy.
