Over the past few days, I've gotten PM's and e-mails from other forum members. I don't recognize their forum names.
All they say is..."What's your location".
No reason is given, no signature, nothing.
If I'm sending somebody a message asking their location...wouldn't it be common courtesy to state why you're requesting such information? Like..."I'm interested in purchasing the rifle (or whatever) you have advertised on S&W Forum" . . .
G-Mac:
You bring up an excellent point, one which happens to be one of my pet peeves.
I have been the recipient of similar terse messages requesting "Where are you?" without explanation, which I have assumed are related to a current Classified FS post I may put up. As a result, I have concluded that an alarming percentage of the population is dispossesed of basic courtesy in written communication.
As another example, there's a classified bulletin board service here in PA operated by one of the ISPs. There's a firearm section, and I usually browse there a couple times a day. More than half of the advertisements are not suitable as FS ads. For example, the following are typical of the subject line of these FS posts:
"Gun"
"Deer gun"
"Winchester" (That's narrowing it to four or five dozen models, if it's a gun and not ammo.)
"30-30" (gun or ammo?)
"Rifle"
"Very Nice!"
"Ultimate Varmint Rifle"
Click on a subject, and these are typical descriptions:
"BASIC MODEL 94. GOOD DEER RIFLE FOR KIDS OR WIFE. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY BY PHONE TO 555-1212. NO TRADES. CASH ONLY. FIRM ON PRICE."
And there's no price listed.
"Want to Buy: im looking for a rifle to hunt bear and maybe some deer. what do u have?"
"7mm mag excellent condition custom stock and scope. 555-1212"
"Old shotgun. I think its 12 gage, but might be 20."
No mention of number of barrels, manufacturer, etc. And no contact information.
And one of my favorites:
Subject: "Like to get a good deal on a gun"
Description: "Would like it to be 100.00 or less"
No clue given as to the desired weapon being a rifle, shotgun, or handgun. Makes one onder if it's a case of "any gun will do, as long as it's a gun." Hmmm.
People are either inexperienced at selling and marketing, or it's a case of being just plain stupid.
