I just bought my first S&W wheel gun. It's a 1956 K22 in about 95%, no box or original grips. Beautiful piece. Tell me what you guys think of this being my first S&W wheel gun. Good, bad or could have done better?

First of all, Welcome.

You couldn't have started out with a nicer gun.
I have a 1957 version and it is as nice as you can find.

Enjoy!!

tigersfan802, welcome to the forum! An excellent choice as a first S&W. The K22 is an extremely popular gun and much sought after by S&W fans. It is perhaps the finest .22 target revolver if a 6" and the 4" also highly popular. A classic gun that belongs in any collection.

Welcome. Others have already given you their answers, but I'm just going to pile on and confirm what they have said. Some of the finest revolvers S&W ever made were the .22, .32 and .38 Masterpiece models of the late '40s and '50s. You have a winner. Congratulations.

Can you post some pictures? There's a post in the "Forum Office" area that explains how to do it if you need a little guidance.

Guys, I will try and post some pics tomorrow. As I have seen on other posts I may have broken rule #1 "Post Pics of your S&W". Sorry for that mistake. THis is also my first time visiting the S&W forum and man what a sight with tons of information and some really knowledgeable people. I thank everyone for sharing their opinion and look forward to hearing from others.

Alright here are the pics of my first S&W wheel gun

tigersfan802, very nice looking gun that doesn't appear to have much wear. The trigger shoe is aftermarket. An excellent choice for your first S&W.

HSGUY thanks for the compliment and yes the gun has very little wear on it. I think the blueing is in probably 95-98% range. Anyway thanks for the input.

Welcome to the forum

Very nice 1st gun. These things are scary accurate, and will outshoot some of the better autoloaders out there.

I don't think you'll get any negatives on your K-22 around here! A great first Smith, or 2nd or 3rd or....! I have a 1948 K-22 and love it! Yours is a beauty! Have fun!

Congrat's, I think the K-22 is one of the Greatest Revolvers of all time. I have a 1947 and 1957 K-22's. The workmanship of the older Smith & Wesson's is something you just don't see anymore.

Beautiful gun, and great choice for a first handgun! I have several K22s, and you just can't beat them. They hold their value extremely well if you take good care of them as well. Beats the stock market lately!
Welcome to the forum. There is a lot to learn here, and a lot of nice people who are willing to share their knowledge.

I used to have the target stocks on my K22, but after a while opted for the service type Magnas with a Tyler T grip. There's no recoil to be concerned about and I think it has a nice look. If you go that route your grips would have the large diamond in the center.
