After fumbling around with various concepts of manufacturing a full-moon carrier, I hit upon the simplest solution of all, a modified Safariland K-frame speedloader holder, with a moon holder made from a 300 Win Mag cartridge case, 1/2" plastic tubing, and a pop-rivet. I heated the plastic tubing, and forced it over the cartridge. I then cut the tubing and case with a hacksaw at 3.5 cm, and cut the plastic tubing off at 3 cm. Drilled out the flash hole with a 3/16" drill, and secured the combo to the Safariland holder with a 3/16" pop rivet. To use, secure over my Wilderness or Rafter 1.5" belts, pop the snap with my middle finger, and the moon is plucked out in a ready-to-load position. Nothing simpler! I will post my new holsters separately.

What kind of problems have you had with the N frame Safariland Split-Six holders? They are the same as you have there, but for the N frame Comp3 speedloaders. These work well for me with moonclips, without any modification. The moonclips are oriented bullets down, which could prove to be a little slower, but not much.

As well you should be, mate! Wish I'd seen these earlier; what process and materials did you use?
Good on ya,
Mike

Mike,

Not much different from you. Those were Safariland double Split-Sixes that I split in two for practice (I had many doubles, few singles). They worked well enough that I never got around to making up some better looking ones. The center post is a .44 Mag case that is pop-riveted in place. The black covering on the post is is shrink-wrap tubing that is heated to fit. Same function as your tubing - keep the metal-to-metal noise down.

Yours do look much nicer.

I tried your method for a while, but I was concerned about the speedloader coming out the open sides. The center post prevents that. If there was some way to split the loaded moon clip over the belt while restricting its upward movement with a flap, that would work OK and be more compact. My leatherworking skills are sufficiently lacking that I didn't see an easy way to modify the flap.

By the way, if you have found some Comp III N-frame speedloaders, I'd love to find out where you got them. ;)

Bubbajoe - the width of my my double-thickness belt would not allow the "split" and I was concerned the clip could be bent. Plus - the position that Haggis and I use allows for a better grasp of the loaded clip.

Buck: I will try the shrink tubing one of these days. Thanks for the tip!

Sorry, I meant CompI. I can never keep this straight. But, this outfit DOES have the CompIIIs as well. It's called Armadillo Supply. There never was a CompIII for N frames I don't think.
