M&P 15-22 star on back of owners manual?

After a few days of reading about the Star on the back of the instruction manual I finally located mine.

There's a Blue Star.

The rifle shed the extractor about round 400 and has made the round trip to S&W for repair. The ejector was properly positioned originally.

Serial number in the DTM1200 range if anyone is counting. Manual is part number REV:MP15-22_062209.

I bought mine about 2 weeks before Christmas and It also had a blue star, and it's in the DTM3800 range.. Unfortunately mine still had to make the trip to Smith for the Extractor fix. Currently awaiting it's return.

Red stamp = Customer return
Blue Stamp = Customer #2 return
No stamp = Lost rifle in return status

Does this indicate that my red stamp 15-22 was purchased by a customer, and returned to the dealer, who returned it to the factory?

If so, it doesn't really bother me (it appears to be brand new and is firing perfectly) but I still would have liked to have known it is a "factory reconditioned" unit.

My un-informed opinion on this is that the stamp is just a inspector's stamp. Different colors = different inspectors. The stamp probably means less than the forum members are reading into it.

great, i don't have a stamp. well, i'm going shooting friday for the first time so i hope it functions because i don't want to lose it in transit.

I think someone on the production line said "Hey, you know what would be really funny? Lets use a rubber stamp to mark the back of the manual. It will drive people nuts trying to figure out what it means."

I finally went to the range today and put 400+ rounds through my (blue star on back of manual) M&P 15-22 and it performed very well with only two FTF's. They were standing straight up and wedged in the last 1/4" of the mag. I really think it was my careless and speedy loading of the mag that caused this to happen.

Ironically the Walther P22Laser I purchased to use up all of the ammo I bought just in case my 15-22 turned out to be a problem child, failed to perform as well as the M&P. It FTF on the second round many times, the round was still in the mag not wedged or anything it just failed to load the next round.

I am a happy customer thus far with my M&P 15-22.:D
My scope and other goodies are due to arrive Saturday and I can't wait to dress it up and take it back to the range and set the scope. Then I'm off to kill the Easter bunny, and Rocky the squirrel.:p

Correction Scope arrived five minutes after I posted this, looks like the Easter bunny and Rocky will meet there demise sooner than I thought.

The stars are out...................

Blue star, or Red star, or No star, or falling star -- Huh?

This all reminds me of my late father, who would put red or green magic marker on the tops of the RNFP lead bullets he'd shoot in his old .38-55 Ballard...

Other shooters would see the different colors, and ask all sorts of questions. He'd lead them down whatever path they wanted to go on, but when they got serious about "Really, what's the color mean...", that's when he'd say it was a "secret".

Truth is my Dad just enjoyed shooting the bull as much as shooting his old rifles, and at age 89 when he last shot it, having a break in the shooting to talk about "this color or that" let his aging shoulders recover between shots.

So -- Blue star, or Red star -- Well, I guess that's a secret too!

Tight groups.

I don't know how a colored star stamped on the back of an owners manual, which is completely independent and separate of the weapon anyway, could remotely have anything to do with the rifle itself. Just my thoughts. Maybe they used red ink and ran out and just switched to blue because that's just what they just happened to have handy. Could be it's an updated owners manual. Who knows.

Mine has a blue star, so when I called to order some things a week ago, I asked the customer service rep. He chuckled and said its just a matter of who the packaging inspector was that sent it on its way out the door. I guess that means there's only two of them in the whole factory, I've yet to hear anything about green or yellow stars.

Mine has a gold star. :p

Seriously? A gold star? Maybe that gets you a tour of the factory like in that Willie Wonka story? :D

I really was hoping there was more of an "unsolved mystery" behind this topic!

Maybe when blue or red go on vacation you'll see a green or yellow star show up....maybe a gold or silver one when management has to lend a hand once in awhile.

My instruction manual has a red star, and the ejector appears to be the same as GillAgin's. It's been to cold to get to the range yet, but will post results as soon as I get a chance to shoot the thing. Sorry for the blurry pic, but I was in a hurry to include a photo with this post.

I picked up a flash hider version two weeks ago. My ejector looks like yours so I guess it is the old version. It is bent so that it actually touches the bolt.I have not fired the rifle yet. My serial number is DTU5XXX. I have cleaned and lubed the rifle. I will definitely run a brick through it this weekend to see if it holds up.If it is going to fail I would rather have it sooner than later. I picked up a great looking Weaver k2.5-1 scope for $10 at a gunshow last week and am looking forward to trying her out.

LOL!!

All throughout this forum we've pretty much looked under every rock to find some type of clue or pattern to help explain the operation of this rifle. Analyzing the different colored stars shows just how far we're willing to reach. :o
