How good is Remington .40 180gr. UMC Bulk Pack 250 Ammo?

Went to my local WalMart early Saturday morning, before the crowd. Was first at the Sporting Goods Department and to my amazement there was a case with 4 boxes of 250 in each of 180gr .40 sitting there. I have never used this brand of ammo and would like some feedback from anyone on it. And since a person is limited to six boxes per purchase instead of just 300 rounds, I brought home 1,000 rounds of it. It is the bright yellow boxes of 250 bulk pack UMC. I sure hope I did ok with this brand.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the California Highway Patrol using the Express version of the load in question? If so, and they're sticking with it, I'm sure it will work fine for self defense. I imagine the CHP shoots a few people, so if that bullet weren't any good on the street (after passing their adoption process), they would get it's number fast.

What you have there is the best deal on name brand target ammo you will find anywhere. The 250 rd Mega Pack sold at Wal-Mart. It's excellent ammo you will not be disappointed. I have a couple of those in 9mm stashed away for a rainy day.

I've only had experience with the 165 Remington UMCs. Snappy, but pretty good stuff. I only had 50 rnds for $16.50, so sounds like you've got a good ammo. What did it set you back?

Thanks for the comments, I got it so cheap that I wasn't sure about the quality. They sold it for $69.97 a brick of 250. That works out to be $13.99 for 50 rounds, plus tax. I got it out the door for $304.37 total for 1,000. With tax $15.22 a box. And being the limit with them is six boxes per customer, I got the 4 in the case and sure didn't expect to find that. I went in hoping to get at least 6 boxes of 50, and came out 1,000 rounds. I guess from your good comments about the ammo, the early bird really got the worm this time. Well I did a little leg work over at www.ammunitiontogo.com . It looks like the bulk pack is the FMJ bullet, which would definately not be the UMC version of what, I think, CHP is using. There is a UMC 180 gr. JHP load available in 50 rd. boxes, however.

I hope they double bagged it. LOL I picked up two 250 round boxes of Remington UMC .45ACP 230gr FMJ. Couldn't believe how heavy the boxes weighed. For the price it is really hard to beat, except if you are reloading.

The UMC can be a little on the dirty side but it's good solid ammo. For target ammo in any caliber, I generally stick to Remington UMC, Winchester White Box, Speer Lawman, and Federal American Eagle. All are good. That's not to say there isn't other good stuff out there.
