Ordered M&P45 Compact

Well......I went almost a week without owning any polymer pistols. I sold my last Glock, a model 36 on Saturday. Yesterday I ordered a Compact M&P 45 (no mag or thumb safety) and I anticipate taking delivery tomorrow.

Who has one, has shot/carried one? Thoughts? Suggestions? I am thinking of replacing the sights with the Heinie Ledge Straight 8 or the Ameriglo/Bowie Tactical Tritiums which are pretty similar to the Heinie's with a different dot pattern.

I am a 1911 guy personally, but most of the students I teach show up with a Glock (gonna get a 21SF) and more and more with a M&P in one flavor or another, therefor I think I should have both a Glock and a M&P for teaching pistols.

45c is a great gun.... small grip but enough barrel to balance perfectly.

YOu will be very happy. The sights work well for me, but i think night sights wouldn't hurt. Lasersyte also makes a nice setup for the M&P
 
I handled and shot a 2010 production M&P 45c with thumb safeties and the Warren night sights. Nice little gun. I like it better than my full-size M&P with the earlier Novak low mount night sights and thumb safeties.

I'm planning to order a M&P 45c of my own in coming months.

The idea of having both Glock and M&P training pistols is probably a good one. Many folks are already familiar with Glocks, and the M&P seems better suited to folks who can't make the overall size and shape of the Glock grip frame work for them.

A funny thing is how one of the other instructors recently bought himself a G21SF. I let him use my M&P 45 one day and now he's bought one of his own. He's going to be keeping the G21SF, but he was pretty surprised when he was able to immediately shoot the M&P 45 more easily and more accurately ... and he's not exactly unfamiliar with the Glock platform, considering he owns a handful of them. :)

I know a handful of other firearms instructors who own Glocks and have bought M&P's and have been very impressed with them, too.

I own 6 plastic pistols. Never expected that to happen. A pair each of SW99's, Glocks and M&P's. While I might be interested in picking up another G26 if the Gen4 version has a smaller backstrap option, I suspect I'll own more M&P's than Glocks as time goes by. ;)

Count me among them. I simply do not like the grip on a Glock. The M&P's different grip sizes allow me to pick the one that suits me best. The grip makes my 45c very controllable even with my small hands.
 
A number of my fellow firearms instructors are 1911 owners & shooters (no surprise). Something we noticed when we started to pick up the M&P 45's was that the smallest of the grip inserts seems to closely simulate the 'feel' of a 1911 with a flat mainspring housing, which most of us prefer. An added perk, so to speak. ;)

The again, the hinged, revolver-like trigger of the M&P was a bit of a change for a couple of the guys, as they were quite used to the straight rearward press of the 1911 trigger. Being an older revolver shooter, I didn't find it much of an issue to be accustomed to the trigger, myself.

All things considered, while the .45 was the last caliber model to be introduced in the M&P pistols line, I tend to favor it and think the M&P is really well suited to the .45 caliber in the slightly larger frame format. It's the best handling plastic .45 ... for my hands ... that I've tried over the years, and the compact version feels as though they used my hands as a model. :)

A long time buddy of mine, recently got into the FFL business. Going Quiet is the name of his business, also selling supressors. Not sure if his website is up and running yet, but you can find him on facebook
 
I'm with BarbC. I have small hands for a fella and this gun fits me perfectly. Carries nicely, shoots even better. It's a great balancing gun as a previous poster stated.
 
Glocks always felt square and chunky. Issued a 23 in 1997, never liked it or shot well with it. I tend to like guns I shoot well with.

Bought a 45c a few months ago and love this polymer gun. Like it so well that I went out and bought a 40c today as a back up.

45c has Apex sear at 4.5 lbs and shoots 2" at 20 yards and American Eagle Ball from a Weaver stance. Hope the 40c does as well.
 
Well, my M&P 45c was inadvertently routed to the wrong coast of the US by the distributor and the dealer/FFL I was using was leaving for a weeks vacation, so........I must wait until this coming Thursday to take possession of it.

Being in need of immediate gratification, lol.....I found a not so used M&P45 at a local gun shop and walked out with it for $415 + tax.

I am guessing that this is actually what is referred to as the "mid-size" gun. The frame is full size and accepts 10 round mags, but the slide is 4" as opposed to 4-1/2." This variant lacks the following (all of which is good IMHO), manual safety, mag safety and frame safety. It also has the Novak sights which I am not necessarily a fan of. I see that S&W offers a "tactical" sight that lets one push the sight against a holster, belt, boot, table, etc to manipulate the slide. Ameriglo and Heinie offer simialr ones which I will look into.

Can't wait to get it to the range either tomorrow or Monday.
 
Of my three M&Ps the 45 compact is my favorite one. The pistol just feels about perfect in my hand. I got mine with factory installed Trijicons which have been very good sights. You'll love yours when you finally get it.

Keep checking with Tony at Jetguns.com .I got my M&Pc from them for $432.00 last month .
 
Tony, at Jet Guns, has started to raise his prices. Most are now $500+. Still has a couple of low-priced 40 cals. Be sure to check that the one you're looking for on the "Browse" page shows that it is "Currently Available;" otherwise, when you click "add to cart," you'll find that it's out of stock.
It's always a good idea to call Tony even if that happens. Sometimes he "finds" one somewhere.
