How can I tell if my 1980 Model 27-2 has a pinned barrel? Also, what is the correct way to measure the barrel length?
Mine measures approx 4 1/8 inches from the front of the cylinder to the tip of the barrel.

27-2

look at the top of the frame just infront of the cylinder where the barrel comes through the frame you will see a pin that goes through the frame. all 27-2 should be pinned.

Ronnie is right in that the overwhelming majority of the -2's were pinned, but as is always the case with Smith & Wesson, there are usually exceptions. Towards the end of the 27-2 run, some "transition" revolvers were shipped without the barrel pin, yet still -2 marked. These, I believe, shipped in late '81 and early'82 just before the -3's hit the shelves.

The S/N is N673006 which I believe put it below the middle of the production run. There IS a little pin, about the diameter of a paper clip, running laterally through the frame and top of the barrel, so is guess it is pinned. I'm seriously considering selling it and would like to establish a value for it. I'd like to correctly represent the particulars, hence the pickiness.

Thanks again!

Need photos to establish value.
