Typically been shooting 9mm Blazer Brass and Federal Champion (Wally World special), but was wondering if anyone has had good/bad experiences with Lawman ammo in 9mm.

Thanks!

Should be fine ammo, but for range use get whatever is cheapest. I'm not suggesting you use Wolf steel case, but expensive FMJ is not necessary either.

Where I am, Lawman is $2 more/box then Blazer and about $3 more than Fed. Champion. I just saw the Lawman ammo and was wondering. It is about the same price as Federal Am. Eagle, so I am just looking for some kind of comparison. I have found Blazers and Fed. Champion to be just fine for target shooting overall.

The only difference is right there in the price. Unless you are Annie Oakley with a 9mm you would never notice a difference in accuracy or function.

My department uses the brass case Lawman .40 180 gr. FMJFP for practice and it's extremely high quality stuff. I have never seen a single problem with so much as a single round. On the other hand I have heard lots of complaints about bulk Federal ammo and recently found a cartridge where the bullet was loaded upside down. Keep in mind that this is all .40 S&W, though I'd expect any sloppy loading practices to cross over to 9mm as well. Apparently there's a good reason Speer ammo is more expensive.

IMO Speer Lawman ammo is too expansive for practice even though that's what it's made for. I would rather use Federal's American Eagle, Winchester White Box of Remington UMC ammo for practice. (that is when I was buying ammo)

I use Lawman TMJ since the range I go to only allows TMJ. It shoots very nice and is quite accurate. I found TMJ for about 10 a box, 40 for about 14, and 45 can be found for about 16 a box.

Other nice thing is the pistol doesnt get as dirty.

Wow, good price on the 45's. Where did you see that, as the best we can see around here is about $17 for the WM Federal. The local shops are all at $20 up for Winchesters.

I have never seen Speer Lawman ammo that cheap anywhere, not even online. Like I said above, I'm sure it's good ammo I just feel it's too expansive to shoot.

Lawman by Speer is good ammo.
It's just the discount line of Speer.
I shoot Lawman in 9mm, .357 SIG and .45.
No problems.

buy from Ammoman

Ammoman sells Speer Lawman from time to time, at a good price, comparable to the Fed. American Eagle. I got a case of .38 special, it did fine. The only thing I had not noticed, it was plus P, and I had to stick to using it in my 686, not my K frames, too rugged for that. No reason to think the 9mm will not be good stuff.

If your K frames are .357 Magnums there's no reason not to use .38 Special +P ammo in them. You only need to be careful not to put too many 125gr .357 Magnum rounds through those K frame Magnums.

I shot Lawman .45 ball when it was $8 a box. Liked it at $8 or $10. Don't shoot it or anything else much now days.

I agree, no problem with my model 66, but my model 10, I don't think so....

That all depends upon when your Model 10 was made. If it's fairly new no problem but if it's old like mine, not so much... Actually I don't own a model 10, I own a 1948 M&P. It was made well before they started putting numbers on them. Even though it's probably safe to shoot current +P ammo through it I just won't take the chance on hurting my favorite shooter.

Lawman Ammo

As David Sinko alluded to, Lawman, made by Speer, at least in their 180 grain, 40 cal. TMJ is good stuff. It says on the box that it is loaded to the same specs as Gold Dot, but obviously a TMJ bullet. My department has had it for our qualification the last two times. Good ammo as far as I can tell, but I have no idea what it costs. Knowing the state procurement system, they got a good deal on it. Beats the wadcutter reloads we got back in the revolver days. Kind of like a box of chocolates, if you know what I mean.

That reminds me

Any of you officers reading this, I don't want to start a thread about this, because frankly it's not that big of a deal. But, in your departments, agencies, or whatever have you noticed a trend in the last couple of years or so, or roughly since the economy went to Hades, of not shooting your old duty ammo for your next qualification? I'm kind of slow on the uptake sometimes, and didn't take full notice when this first happened, for various and sundry reasons, but now they don't replace the duty ammo. In the past this was a BIG no-no, you had to shoot the old stuff up, it might be old, couldn't trust it, blah blah. But now, the drill is when you show up on the firing line, as always, everybody emptied their weapon and magazines, etc. etc., and then whatever the drills and speeches and issue some practice ammo, qualify, clean weapons and that's it. Reuse the old ammo. No one really said much, but this ammo is at least two years old now. Is this going on everywhere? Just curious.

Practice with what you shoot

I have always practiced shooting what I carry. I think in the long run it will be worth the upfront costs. I hate to waste high dollar hollow points but...I don't like surprises.
Just my 2 cents.
