Tactical Shoelaces - Seriously?

Just when you think you've seen it all something comes along to prove you wrong. We flew to Arizona to spend Christmas with my wife's Dad in Scottsdale. Friday we had some time to kill so the youngest and I headed out to the Scottsdale Gun Club hoping to sneak in a range session with one of their full auto Thompson rental guns. The place was packed with a rather lengthy wait for the range so we didn't get to shoot but made the most of it by doing some shopping as long as we were there. They had a ton of stuff that my LGS doesn't carry including the much maligned mini pistol bayonet, pink pistols and other tactical accessories. I almost sprung for the tactical windbreaker but instead settled for a tactical polo shirt and tactical shoelaces to replace the one that broke right after going through airport security. I'm not really sure what makes them "tactical" but it made me chuckle, now I have tactical accessories that none of my buds have.

Next time out here I will shoot the full auto Thompson, maybe I can even talk the Mrs. into going along...

I didn't save the packaging but here's a pic of them (as requested?)

They are 5.11 brand, you can find them by googling "tactical shoelaces"...

People have been lacing boots with paracord for a while, this just saves on melting the ends with a lighter. The idea is that in an emergency, you can access the inner strands to fish, sew yourself up, floss, whatever.

Some people prefer leather or other compositions so as to be better for strangling.

Actualy USMC issue boot laces are something like a bit under two dollars at the MCX if anyone really wants some. The old timers swear that you can strangle someone and do all sorts of other things with them.
 
I suppose tactical shoelaces don't come untied when you're doing tactical stuff like runnin jumpin and shootin.
You could just get regular shoelaces and tie double knots.

Geeesh -- I thought they would have had flashlights on them. That way your enemy knows where you are and has a fair shot at you before you can see him.

Not good tactics, mind you, but tactics never the less.
 
It's all in the marketing. A few years back I saw an ad for "camouflaged mens bikini swimsuits". The caption read "swim undetected in enemy ponds"
 
Forgive my ignorance, but just what makes a shirt or windbreaker, "tactical"? Does it employ tactics of its own? Or, perhaps, does it give the wearer special tactical abilities? If so, maybe the shoelaces would, too. Just wondering.
 
I thought the only thing required to make an object tactical was to paint it black.
I was in a Police uniform shop recently and saw tactical handcuff KEYS! I guess that word sells products to the Rambo crowd, of which I have never been a member. (I'm not tall enough).:D
 
Don't knock these things, guys!!!!

They saved my life once....I lashed the pair together and rappelled off a curb!
