Can I get an M&P Compact with mags safety AND manual safety?

This is a standard version.

Why you'd want either remains a mystery other than the magazine safety version lacking the billboard "warning" on the right side.

Both can be permanently removed without more than a punch.

I looked at the S&W site at the 9mm and 40cal. From what I can tell they either come with the magazine safety or the thumb safety, not both. I guess they must think you don't need both.

Based on how the internals work I don't think that they would conflict with each other. The magazine safety is under the sear block and the detents on the thumb safety leaver operate on the outside of the trigger housing. I'm not an expert so you may want to call S&W. 1-800-331-0852

Sure. I think a deadly weapon should require a bit of training to demostrate prowess with it. I get tired of hearing people who somehow think a safety actually endangers their life. I train to disengage the safety as I draw. They've saved more lives than lost by having them. As for the mag safety, I know that has saved lives. I know two cops here today because of them. I have a child and while the gun is always locked up, the mag is not in the gun, so my son (3 years old, would have to somehow get into the safe, insert the mag, rack the slide, and disengage the safety. I don't mind the extra layer of safety.

Yes, without the magazine locked in place the gun will not function, chamber loaded or not.

maybe the site(gun gallery) is wrong but I don't see any of there m&p line with a magazine safety. Of course I see the thumb safety on some guns but like I said no magazine safety it could be a type o but they might of stop that if anybody knows whats right please let me know. I am in the market for a m&p and would like to know one way or another thanks.

Yes, without the magazine locked in place the gun will not function, chamber loaded or not.

Actually, the weapon will function, but it won't fire without a magazine (loaded or not) properly inserted in the magazine well. By the way, I'm not trying to nit-pick or sharp shoot here, I'm trying to ensure people understand the function of the magazine safety.

evilnick06, I found this one with a magazine safety on Gun Genie, #10952. This link will take you to shops in my area (Colorado) and I don't know if other states vary on what they allow. I bought mine without the magazine or thumb safety.

Thanks I was just curious because people keep mentioning it and I didn't see it. I got a question on the thumb safety I keep seeing people mention you can just pop it off it you don't want it. I was wondering if that was true and if so how hard is it. Thanks for the help and sorry if this takes away from the thread but it is somewhat related instead of a compact mines being a full size that I am looking at.

It is pretty easy to take the thumb safety off, just need to remove one pin at the rear of the pistol. You will have holes where the safety used to sit.

I can't find an exact link to how to do it but here are a couple that might help, you just have to put the two together in your head and I'm sure you can figure it out. The first one shows a guy who just cut one side of the safety off. The second is from Apex Tactical showing how to take the trigger block out to put in their hard sear. They'll give you an idea of how things work. Probably more to be found on YouTube.

I think the question posted has been answered, so now I've got a dumb question...I only own S&W revolvers, but am intrigued by the M&P compact guns. I like the idea of 12 rounds of 9mm (I think that's what I read) in a small concealable gun. My question is this...with the revolvers, S&W decided to start putting the stupid internal locks on them. I hate. I hate them so much, I have sold three guns with the locks and have purchased pre-lock guns at a higher price. So...do the M&P handguns have internal locks? I know we're discussing the safety, and the lock does not act like a safety...but I thought you guys would know for sure. If there is no internal safty (i.e., I don't have to carry a key around) then I will probably pick one of these guns up...

You can get the gun with or without the lock. My M&P 9c came without the lock, mag safety or thumb safety. Just check when you're buying. The 9c is a really fine shooting pistol right out of the box. I have over 10K thru mine.
