I don't get it. I have nothing against Glocks or their owners, but it gets a little old when one asks advice about a S&W gun and gets the response "get a glock". I f I wanted glock advise, I'd go to a glock forum. I've even seen this in the revolver forums. I joined this forum because I'm shopping for my first defensive handgun. Thanks to all the great advice I've recieved on this forum I have it narrowed down to a 908 or a model 60, just can't decide if I want an auto or a wheel gun more. Wish I could afford both. The 908 I found is $200 cheaper. Neither is close to a glock, so please don't try to convert me to "the plastic dark side". Thanks for letting me rant.:D

I hear ya. I call em Glocknazi's.

They haven't realized that Glock is NOT perfection.

Had one of the obnoxious vocal Glock worshipers at our range that took every opportunity to berate anyone within hearing that Glocks NEVER had problems,....until...

I was RO on a stage, and his Holy Glock just choked, I mean it JAMMED so bad he couldn't clear it and had to stop. The match was further delayed while all present laughed until we cried..........
worse yet, when we finally cleared it, it was HARD BROKE and had to go back to Glock!

Anyone who never had a gun break just hasn't shot enough.

AMEN! If I wanted to know about a Glock, I would ask about a Glock. If I ask about a S&W or RIA orSpringfield or Taurus then I do not want to see any BS about a Glock. I am sick of the GlockNazis!

How's Clearwater? I pretty much grew up there.(well I never grew up)[/QUOTE

Like everyplace these days, pretty checkered. Still some really nice areas but I hear what sounds like fire fights in the distance. Also quite a few homeless in certain areas. Had a vagrant pull a knife on me a couple of months ago, that's why I'm handgun shoping.;) The beaches are still fantastic though!

Hey, when all you got is a brick, I mean a Glock, you feel a need to convince everyone that it's the best and shiniest brick in the world. I've personally never owned one because they just don't feel right in my hand, and to me, they look as appealing as a Hi-Point. Also, every S&W I've shot has run flawlessly, nuff said..... Shoo

It's an Austrian/superiority/black uniform thing . . . :D

Isn't a Glock an Austrian rip-off of the Glockenspiel, but contains plastic rather than being all steel and wood like the originals?

I have eight Glocks and I appreciate them for the efficient tools that they are, but I am not out to convert anyone. I also gave 47 S&W revolvers. With 22 years of Glock ownership, if you asked a question about Glocks I could probably give you a pretty definitive answer, but I wouldn't answer a question about a Smith with a Glock response.

How about a little Rodney King here for the non-proselytizers?

I own Glocks as well as S&W, Colts and other brands. Glock is nothing special, really not that good of a gun and over rated. They are ugly and look like a kids toy. They sell cheap when new and have some built in problems.

That said, they work.

Give me a S&W any day over a Glock.

Now that said, it bothers me on THIS site when people that should be touting S&W are advising others to look at Brand X or Brand Y when buying a new gun.

Jeez people. This is a S&W site. Those here SHOULD be here for S&W information and not to tell people that another brand is preferred over a S&W.

I have a model 60 and a 3913 (fancy stainless version of the 908) I carry both. If you are going to conceal carry (I think you are) I would go with the 908 first. It is almost the holy grail of carry guns. It will be more accurate than the 60, a little bit more difficult to conceal. I am a medium build, tall. I can wear my 3913 in a OWB holster and wear a loose fitting tee shirt and it disappears. The 908 carries more rounds than the 60. I almost wish I had the 908 over the 3913 for the dark finish. If I raise my arms over my head you can see the muzzle of the 3913 pop out below my tee shirt and the gun is nice shinny stainless steel and the muzzle jumps right out at you. So, I have to careful about that. The 908 being blue would not stand out like that. Value wise the 60 is more likely to keep a higher value. I have had excellent luck with the 3913, fairly accurate (I shoot IDPA with it) I have never had it jamb and seems to shoot just about any ammo you feed it without problems. My only gripe is the safety/decocker It is just backwards from what I am used to. Being DA/SA I carry it with the safety off so I don't have to mess with it.
I have to laugh a bit at the IDPA matches most everyone in the semi auto class shoots full size Glocks and a lot wear "tactical" vests and they draw from kydex holsters. None of the guys that shoot that stuff at the IDPA matches actually carry that gun or gear. I actually shot the match from carry leather and 3913. I am new to IDPA, but last match my scores on one course of fire were right in the middle of the expert range and they were shooting Glocks and they were not new to the IDPA matches. I just think that the 908 is one of the best conceal carry guns out there.

I wanted to own a modern high capacity 9mm. I shopped around and ended up buying an M&P. My second choice would have been a Springfield. The Glocks I looked at were all priced higher and were not as ergonomic as the other guns. I really like the ability to change out the backstraps to fit your hand.

Back to the original poster. I would probably go with the model 60 over the model 908. Nothing against the 908, but I think the 60 would be a little easier to conceal. I find the double stack grip on my 5906 a little hard to keep concealed.

I've only got one Glock left. G23 with a spare lonewolf 9mm barrel. The Glock is my bedside companion. As an M&P weapon it is pretty much perfect. I'd rather see our troops with G21's than the M9. There's been three AD's involving reserve LEO's in the last three month's with a Glock or S&W plastic gun. This in the last 4 months. Obviously the design of the gun means more training is needed.

The subject comes up because Glocks are universally available and they work. Well most of the time. Fairly idiot proof and easy enough to learn. Thus they've become sort of a basic commodity in the firearms world. The pocket Glocks compete against J frames and are a viable option that someone ought think about, hence they come up in J frame discussions. The 19/23/32/whatnots meanwhile are sort of a benchmark of medium sized autos. Perfect? Nah. Ubiquitious? Pretty much. And there's a reason for that.

(Interesting aside -The original owner of this forum, before he sold it... he carried a Glock 19. )

Me? I only have three Glocks laying around. But I've had others, and will probably have more in the future. It's not that I love them, it's simply that they've tended to do what I want them to.
