38 special ammo

Just bought a model 28 and was wondering what is a good place to buy inexpensive .38 for it for plinking and to get used to the gun? Maybe what brands are good? Thanks in advance!

If you can find some 147 grain HBWCs (hollow base wad cutters for a reasonable price, buy them. I just put a box of them through my model 28 yesterday, and was amazed at how accurate they were out of that gun.

I can't help you with manufacturer prices on specific brands except to say that Cheaper Than Dirt, and Sportsmans Guide seem to have pretty low prices on bulk ammo. The thing is that once you add shipping, you are paying almost what you will pay at the local Walmart or local gun shop. You will have to do a bit of shopping.

I buy 95% of my ammo at Walmart and they have enough variety to suit me. I bought some Winchester white box 38spl +p 125 gr JHP this week for $19.47/box. The same ammo cost $21.99 on December 2nd, which was the last time I bought some. It's almost as cheap now as the steel Russian stuff they have. I don't see how you could pay shipping and get it for much less.

If there are Cabela's in your neck of the woods-KS, they have some good bargains on all calibers...BTW, I agree with the American Eagle..Good stuff.

Unfortunately the words inexpensive and ammo don't usually end up in the same sentence anymore. For the most part if you don't reload you have to hunt the NET for good prices and buy in bulk to get those prices. Like said above, Ammo-To-Go is a good place to start.

If you're willing to shoot remanufactured ammo Georgia Arms has fairly good prices. So does The Mastercast Bullet Co.

The Winchester "White Box" 130 grain FMJ .38s used to be fairly reasonable at WallyWorld. They shot very well in most of the .38s and .357s I tried them in too.

In mixed brass, Georgia Arms is selling 158gr LRN, LSWC and LSWCHP+P as well as 148gr LWC and 125gr LRN @ $11.50/50.
In new brass (Starline) they cost $3.00 more per 50.

If you buy in bulk quantities (500 or 1000) the discount offsets the shipping charges and you get a Mil Surplus ammo can if you take the "Canned Heat" option.

If you want it "Now", you'll have to get it locally and pay higher prices.

I will give another +1 for Ga arms. I use their 38 special loads in my M-10 and used them exclusively in my 637. Never had an issue with them.

I found a website for decent priced pwc ammo for $269 for 1000 rounds with shipping, I know it's bulk but seems like a good deal..
