Guys with huge earrings?

I don't really understand them. Apparently they don't think about what their ears will look like when then are older. I like when you take them to jail and they have to take the earrings and piercings out. It's like watching a carpenter empty his tool pouch of all the nails and screws at the end of the work day.
Funny story, one of my friends got his ear pierced after the reception for my wedding in the bar by one of our other drunk friends. This kid's mom didn't think it was funny the next morning and almost ripped his ear off pulling the earring out. No earrings for my son and he knows it.

I saw a young man with out his hoop style rings out of his his ears. He looked like he had a couple of night crawlers hanging onto his ears. Kinda gross looking if you ask me. I think it's just another way of saying "hey look at me, I want attention" Before you do something like that, you have to say where do I see myself in 10 years. I have never seen anybody at a work place that was in charge of anything or anybody with that king of stuff.

Yeah, based on the folks that I've seen wearing these 'gauges,' I think these things are an acknowledgement to yourself, and a proclamation to the world, that you never want to be in charge of anything, and you do not aspire to have significant material wealth. I truly believe it is a form of self-hate, but that's just my thinking, maybe I need to raise my level of awareness...

No offense to anyone with them, but I've never understood any earring on a man, except if you were a pirate 200 years ago, or if you really, deep down, want to be a woman. Or, maybe if you are/were heavily involved as a musician, I guess anything goes there... But, again, that's just my thinking. I was at Home Depot the other day, and a skinny little guy was standing next to me with a small gold earring, and I thought to myself, does he really think that thing looks cool, really...?

Treading lightly here, since this has a religious connotation, but one explanation for an earring on a man has not been mentioned.

It was the practice of the Hebrews who indentured themselves as "bond servants" to pierce an earlobe and wear a golden earring to signify that they were a servant. I know of several Christians today (male and female) that don't make a big deal out of it, and most never mention it unless specifically asked about it, but they do it as a personal statement about their attitude towards their faith. But I don't think this applies to the bent the discussion has taken on large, gaudy rings and "gauges".

The only golden round accessory I have on my person is my pocketwatch and wedding ring, and neither of them happen to be lodged in any orifice of my body.

I will be more than happy to help with piercings if and when someone breaks into my house...albeit with fast, yet blunt lead objects. :D

I saw a guy in court with a tattoo on the side/front of his neck that said "Only God can judge me." The judge takes one look at the tattoo and says, "Wanna bet?"

Ran into another guy with the word "BAD***" tattooed on the front of his neck in big block letters. Me: "You mis-spelled that. It's 'D,U,M,B....'"

Every generation does something to send their parents into orbit.
In the 50's it took a pack of Camels rolled up in a T-Shirt and a D.A. greaser haircut. In the 60's it was long hair and an American Flag sewn onto a jean jacket. In the 70's it was the gender-bender. In the 80's it was tattoos. In the 90's it was piercings. Now it is gages. I don't get excited about any of it. Because it ain't put on me and it ain't any of my business.

A former longhaired, used to have an American Flag jacket, will always be tattooed, incredibly well balanced, battle-scarred by life, getting old dude.

And just what do you consider older? What makes one a 'loser'?

I just turned 51. Work as a DoD contractor , also got my own machine , fabrication (and design) shop on the side. My Navy days (9yrs actually) were long over when I got my first tatts at 31. Many more since I became friends with some really top notch tattoo artists. All my designs (some might be considered 'offensive'). I work on their bikes. They color my hide. Bought my first Harley (with Pops help) and got a single left earring when I was 15(still just the one). Got a nice home , good woman(w/tatts and piercings) and all (almost) the toys(and guns) I want. Loser?

My best friend who just turned 60 has darn near his whole hide covered in ink. Got scores of piercings ALL over ('nuff said!) and 'hooped' his earlobes. Not my cup of tea , but he don't care what you or I think. Cuban by birth , he's a 3-tour Nam vet , Marine. Ain't gotta prove nothing to no one. Owns an excavating business and fleet of heavy equipment , nice home and all the toys he wants. Hot chicks throw themselves at him. Loser?

THINK whatever ya want when ya look at someone. Ya don't KNOW squat.

Getting an ear pierced, or having tattoos is one thing, but putting in those stupid "gauges" and stretching out your ear lobes beyond the point of ever closing up is another. If somebody wants to look like a circus freak, it's a free country.

I do not understand why men wear earrings. I try to control my prejudices, but it just plain looks bad to me. I know there is a need to 'belong', and my parents no doubt felt the same about long hair on men, but earrings on men - especially those big ear lobe expanders? Pirate? Gypsy? Mythological Greek sailor? 19th century Zulu warrior? Eurosexual? I missed the memo.

It`s all about being cool man. Gotta impress all the loser butt head friends so they can marvel how bad we are.

Once again, you hit the nail, on the head! To each is own, but agree with this statement.

There's only one difference between those with tattoos and those without:

Tattooed people don't sit around and gossip about why you aren't.

"...Great minded people talk about ideas, average minded people talk about things, and small minded people talk about other people..."

I like this post. :)

I think by "losers" most of us just mean people who are dishonest, don't take care of themselves or their families, are deadbeats, etc. As long as you're not a burden on society, and even better if you are a contributing member of the community, have at it.

I started to comment on the irony of that, but . . . . .

You illustrate my point well. It is not my intention to name anyone specifically. So I didn't. I guess that must have went right over your head ehh? Yet you felt it necessary to call me out.

So what now? You wanna talk about Kim down the street who wears revealing clothes? Or maybe we can talk about how bad Johnnies haircut is. Or Tom's new tattoo?

...Geez what a loser that Tom clown is. It's obviously because he is dumb and has poor self-esteem. Man...Kim and Johnnie are irresponsible too. And Kim isn't being safe or thinking of her children. I would never hire anyone who wears clothes like that. And on and on...

Why? Were you not loved enough as a kid? Does it make you feel better about yourself to be so degrading to people who don't fit into your preconceived mold? Seriously I just don't get it. I am not sure I want to get it either. Seems so small-minded. Care to point out the error of my ways? Being so young, I obviously haven't a clue what I am saying. Please help me, m'kay?
