I thought they were supposed to be lower profile that the old sights?

they are when they are close down...

but when used they are much higher..

On page 7, the MBUS Gen 2 pics insert on the left, below those, the red line is the profile of the Gen 1 when fliped down, inside the red line is the Gen 2 when fliped down. The Gen 2 has a lower flipped down profile.

When flipped up the Gen 2 is taller than the Gen 1. I imagine some of the added height when flipped up is due to the changes to make the flipped down profile lower (was it really a big deal to people?) and changes made to attempt to finally make the front post hold more consistent elevation adjustment. Maybe they fixed the issues with the rear sight too in the Gen 2 version.

if you have the GEN 1 and want the GEN 2...

There is "Slight" difference.

I myself needed another set of MBUS in black and spending under $100 isn't too bad for both front and rear back up sights

plus you can only get the GEN 2 now. You may fine some Gen 1 as left over stock.


FDE is Gen 1. Black is Gen 2

Are the protective "ears" just taller or is the actual post also taller? Id hope they are the same height at the post so it doesnt throw off any cowitness.

Would you mind posting a pic looking down through the "N.A.W.S."?
If I read the scrip correctly, both apertures can be folded down on the Gen2, leaving only the wings. (Well, now that I look, there's no mention of this anymore. Maybe it was abandoned?)


Now if those boys in Hong Kong can whip up some cheapo $27 versions. . .

I saw knockoff version dating back maybe 6 months ago. They're out there.

I really don't think there's much of a difference that warrants replacing the Gen 1, however.
