Anybody catch Wayne LaPierre on Beck's show today? The NRA has called for congressional investigation into a program that the Obama administration was running called "Fast and Furious." LaPierre alleges that in spite of objections by agents and law enforcement officials, unnamed government agencies have provided thousands of guns to Mexican drug cartels. The justification was that Agents would follow the guns to see where they go. Unfortunately they lost track and now the weapons are being against our law enforcement people in the field.

Wayne LaPierre also suggested there is a potential cover up and the administration is trying to exploit what happened to suit their anti 2A agenda. Glenn promised to have staff people follow up to get more information. You probably won't see much of this on the MSM channels.

If it is appropriate to post a link to the Beck/LaPierre interview I will do so, otherwise it's on the front page of Glen Beck's blog...

Glenn likes to claim "it is a god-given right to own a gun" so why is he complaining about a little missionary work?

This sounds like what's called "letting guns walk". The ATF allows someone they know is smuggling guns across the border go in hopes of catching... someone more important. This is a ridiculous strategy.

There's a case from 2008 where smugglers crossed into Mexico with a bunch of ARs. The ATF knew about it and let it go. Border Control Agent Brian Terry was killed by one of these guns.

Oh, I'll mention the date again... 2008.

A practice the ATF has been doing before the Obama administration.

This is just another example of why I don't watch Beck. He has an agenda. He has been caught lying / omitting details / twisting the truth to fit his story countless times.

Can you cite where you heard this news from 2008. 'Cause it new to me. Beck does a good job, can't fault him if he's not aware of something. I have heard him be critical of past administration, not just the current one. I'll admit I turn him off when he gets too preachy but I'm not aware fo lies. Can you cite when and about what he lied?

I never paid Beck any attention until I heard him go on a rant about social justice and the church. It was obvious he had no idea what the church's teaching on social justice was and was simply trying to make it sound like a socialist thing. I've seen that he has a double standard when it comes to connecting seedy individuals to certain political figures, but ignoring similar connections for others.

I don't want to post too many links, or turn this into anything political (as per the rules and regulations of the board), but I'll send you a PM.

To be clear, I pretty much have the same dislike for all "opinion" personalities on cable. I can't stand that hardball guy..... I don't want someone's opinion with my news, so I try to bounce between CNN, FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, PBS and BBC.. either on TV or their websites.

I couldn't agree more.

All news programs are opinionated, where do you get yours from? I'd trust Beck before any others.

Something about Beck's style reminds me of the PTL Evangelist Jim Bakker... or Jimmy Swaggert.

You can't help but be drawn in, watching in disbelief as the sheep huddle around and soak up his over the top seriousness.

Hard to put a finger on, but I'm waiting for a personal train wreck.

Don't wish it on him, but it happens to self important blowhards (ie... Rush and O'Reilly come to mind)

Got it in one; as soon as they start to believe their own hype it's a swift trip downhill.

"Pride goeth before a fall"--people haven't changed much in the past few thousand years.

All "news" is slanted, that's a fact. If it's not out and out in the reporting of it, it's in the tone or delivery.
+1 on that. That's the reason I have all those different news sources bookmarked in my "news" tab in Firefox. For some stories, you need to read a few sources to try to get the truth.. or as close to it as you can.

That's fine. I expect that. My problem with these opinion commentators is that they don't tell you what happened, but how to feel about what happened... and in some cases they try to pass their own ridiculous theories off as fact.

When I'm talking to someone and can tell that I'm not hearing their opinion, but Beck or Matthew's opinion, I don't want to continue the conversation. These are the kind of people who call others sheep yet fail to realize they're being herded.

I don't buy that GB knew nothing of the atf gun running that has been all over the internet for weeks and weeks. He has a staff that does nothing but research and for them to have missed this . . . Just don't make any sense.

I have a bit of experience with the Feds and trying to catch the bigger fish. At least back in the 70's and early 80's the Feds in the DEA would float money to druggies, let the money walk, purchase the drugs and attempt to follow the money upwards to catch the big fish...sometimes it was successful and other times a disaster....if the fish they got was not really big enough, they would turn over the arrest to us local guys. We worked a lot of deals with the DEA and I never particulary enjoyed working with them. I know nothing of the ATF but would not be surprised if they did similar things. I know they set one of our detectives up, sold him a machine gun,(told him it was legal for a cop to own one) then busted him for possesion of a machine gun without a license. He lost his job, his certification and although he stayed out of jail he has the lable of convicted felon on his record.....of course he should have known better but......still it was a set up....he could have used an entrapment defense but 12 people on a jury are told, yep I did it but he made me do it....if they dont believe the last part of the "he made me do it defense" then you still get convicted and my guess is that you dont get probation along with your conviction but jail time too....He opted for the lessor of the two evils....

Beck and his ilk...

...are all entertainment. They are to real news what professional wrestling is to real wrestling...if one chooses to believe in such a thing as real journalists to begin with. I have written on this in this forum before.
All of these guys have their day in the light and then fade into obscurity. In Mr. Beck's case, that fact will be probably sooner than later.
IMHO there is not one, repeat NOT ONE, media person in this day and age that does not have their own agenda that is counter to the good of this country and that limits the ability for people to get real, credible news and information.
Look at all of the "revolts" in the middle east these days...they weren't broke by CBS, NBC, ABC, et al...they broke on places like You Tube.

The Fast & Furious story has been out there for awhile. As I understand it, there was no means in place to actually track the guns that went into Mexico. Also, border gun dealers were 'strongly encouraged' to co-operate with sales to very questionable looking/acting people.

Do a websearch on some of these terms and there's a lot of info out there from various sources - mainline and otherwise.

I didnt see the interview, but if it was as described, I applaud Wayne LaPierre. We need to go on the offensive and put them back on their heels. Stop just playing defense.

Media question: How come so little coverage of the fact that it appears that an armed citizen with a concealed carry permit confronted the recent Oregon mall shooter. Said shooter ran away and then shot himself. How come that gets so little coverage or discussion ?

I started this thread on 03-25-2011. In the 9 months since, enough facts have become public to validate Glen Beck and Wayne LaPierre's original assertions. It's unfortunate that the MSM coverage of Fast & Furious has been all but nonexistent...

Wrong!
Brian Terry was killed on Dec 14 2010.

There was a similar operation under the Bush administration, but the guns were tracked.
