Ruger Stainless 1911 (Update See Last Page)

I'll give Ruger credit after looking over pics they seem to have made a pretty decent 1911. Have to see how they fair on the market. The lack of firing-pin safety, has a cast integral plunger tube, and oversized thumb safety, 2 piece guiderod, are some pretty nice features for the price range they are listing.

Based on GunBlasts review (Jeff likes everything, but I do like his review) and the Ruger web site specs, that's a darn fine looking gun.
I am not the biggest 1911 fan although I have several and I would buy one of these in a minute.

None of my new Rugers have the billboard on the side. My new guns say consult owners manual. The billboard is gone.

Had a look at my 22/45. Yup... the manual is there. In tiny letters on the underside of the barrel. Very unobtrusive. I'd never actually noticed it till I looked for it.

I don't see a manual on the new 1911. It does have a visual check for loaded chamber (is this the "Mass hole" I've heard about?) Grip safety, of course but no mention I saw of a mag disconnect.

So far so good, but will it be Kalifornistan compliant?

Wonder if the reference to "centerfire pistol" might be an indication that there will be a 1911 style .22LR? THAT would generate a lot of interest.

No shortage of 1911s here, but it doesn't look bad. Wouldn't mind seeing a classic "Wild Bunch" type pistol version of it...higher visibility standard sights, wide spur early type hammer, solid early type trigger (with overtravel adj.).

Another American made 1911 is all to the good. Hope they sell a million of them.

The manual says you have to have a magazine inserted to dry fire. Looking at the exploded view I don't see any mag disconect parts but I'm no expert on 1911's.

Ruger has an all new facility for these 1911 pistols. They have the ability to make all kinds of variations.

I'd love to see an affordable alloy framed Commander sized 1911. If Ruger makes it, or anyone else, I will buy it.

Oh no. Don't recall exactly but either the P97 or the P345 (maybe both?) had problems with that. Namely if you dry fired without the mag you destroyed the firing pin.

No mag disconnect = no go in the PRK as far as I know. :(

I have heard the theory that makers are deliberately leaving out the Cali compliant features so dealers/buyers will raise enough stink to get the roster done away with.

I agree with you on this one sheriff-...on BOTH of your points ;)
(again we see that nasty "N" word :D)

We can't help it that you guys are not "normal" right handers.:D

Neither is GunBlast Jeff Quinn and he isn't whining, he's just gonna buy one at Brownells.

Buy the gun, send me your safety and I'll send you my ambi:D

Thanks for the link. I always like the videos that show the inside of the plant and the actual making of the gun or any product.

Looks like another winner for Ruger.

Sounds good, looks good, etc. Let's just hope that it "is good".

Ruger has had some real problems of late with getting something on the market before all the bugs are worked out.

The "P" pistols had teething problems....and the LCP was what I consider a joke.

I like the looks of this. Why would anyone buy the Ruger over any of the others? I have no idea.

Let's just hope that they got it right.

What other 1911 are you gonna get in the less than $800 street price. Probably $700 something that is all US made with the features this one has? It appears better than the Remington version to me, but will certainly have to see them side by side.

My SW #108299, while being a accurate gun and so far no problems, the parts "feel" cheap to me after complete disassembly. The SW magazines will not fit my other 1911's but the SW will accept other mags??

No, I will not be the first one to buy one but that's true of most new introductions. Let the bugs work out first.

Made in USA
Ruger customer service is top notch.
Competitively priced stainless

Living behind the tofu curtain, an SR1911 is gonna have to have some stuff I don't like. I can buy other 1911's that don't have said "features."

I doubt Ruger will be offering a Kalifornia compliant version. There is always the single shot exemption. Kinda a PITA.
