Did a bunch of research, and looked at a bunch of different brands. Finally bought a DeWalt Li Ion 18V combo hammer Drill / Compact impact driver set. I am very satsfied with the product. Lot of power in a cordless. Just my recent experience!

I've had good results with a cordless Mikita that I bought about 5 years ago. Best quality I could find at the time, even made in the good 'ol USA (not sure if they still are...?).

I also agree that a corded drill is the way to go, if application fits. I've got a couple of Milwaukees that are very good quality. Again, these were made in USA, but not sure if they still are...?

Bosch always made very nice power tools, but it seems like they have gone down the 'big box' store drain (plastic gears in a Bosch, really...?). Change product line to sell to the masses, at the lowest price (e.g. CHEAP), in order to appeal to the masses... They may still have a higher quality product line, not sold in the big retailers, not sure, haven't shopped them out in a while. These high-end brands used to make quality tools that were made for tradesmen, that demanded quality. Most stuff today is inexpensive/disposable junk.

Well here's what I did. One of the batteries was good so that changed the equation. Don't need a big old drill( but REALLY wanted one BADDDDDDDDDDD) so I bought the 9.6 v dewalt for $89.99 which leaves me with two drills two chargers and three batteries (nicads) for $10 less than buying two batteries. Then I bought a Corded DeWalt 8V for heavy work. Keep the old drill at the office and the two new ones at home. Price for both was $40.00 cheaper than an 18v Li ion Dewalt.

I have to say Makita is hands down the best. My neighbors buisness is to repair electric motors of all sizes and types. I have to go with his opinion and buy what he recommends. Mine has been abused and keeps on going.

This thread is going to out last the trigger lock thread! :D

I wonder if Mr. Cajunlawer goes through this much research picking out jurors?

I agree-it's pretty stupid but sometimes I get on these kicks and..........well you know...it's a guy thing ;) I find that the older I get the more I get sidetracked by silly stuff-I guess it's just another way to decompress.

Buying a drill that runs on batteries? Apparently you are using it to drill through soft wood. It's hard to find a decent drill, even if it is electric, to drill through anything like steel.

Sorry, but I have to rub this in a little. In two years you will now have more dead batteries and have to pay full Dewalt price for them. If you had gone Ridgid and done the service plan they would replace them for free...
