It's Jack Daniels time....

I keep a bottle of Jack Daniel's in the house for cooking, seldom drink it. I also buy Jack Daniels wood chips to smoke meat with. They chip up their old oak barrels and sell them off.

I'm having a Sailor Jerry rum and vanilla Coke right now.

The smell of No.7 brings back my 16th birthday when a GF and I tried to drink a bottle ourselves. Back when it was 96 proof or so. My head was in the thunderjug most of the nite.

Now I do like Gentleman Jack and have a shot of it every so often with friends.

But I prefer the better Kentucky bourbons. Jim Beams small batch line , with 9yr old , 100 proof Knob Creek being my favorite. I did get a bottle of Bookers for Xmas. 6-8yr old single barrel , uncut , unfiltered , from the barrel to the bottle , this bottle was 129 proof.

Saw on the History Channels 'Modern Marvel' piece on distilleries the Jack Daniels , Jim Beam and most other American whiskey makers sell most of their barrels after only one use to Scotland's Scotch distilleries.

The only folks I've ever known personally that drank scotch were doctors, lawyers, and masochists . . . . :p

Not many bourbons I Don't like ..... Brother - in - law got me started on Woodford Reserve. That'd be my new favorite. Right behind that would be Jim Beam Black. Anxiously awaiting the national release of Beams Devils Cut. ... supposed to be this month.

I am really liking the the new Jack Daniel's Tennesse Honey. The honey makes it a little smoother, which makes it that much easier to drink lots of it on the rocks!

i thought a few years ago the discontinued the green and black labels. its all 80 proof now except the single barrel and gentleman jack. although i was at bevmo the other day and they have a commemorative out right now thats 90 proof in honor of their first corporate salesman thats 90 years old

i like a jack and coke and sometimes mix in the jack with my steak marinade...

You can add Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill to that list. Oh, Charlotte, too.

I'm a transplant from Ohio (21yrs and counting). I consider NC home! If your local ABC store runs out of JD, consider "Buffaloe Trace"(BT) as an EXCELLENT substitute! Was looking for something a bit different the other day and purchased 750ml bottle of BT for ~21.00. It is really, really good either mixed or straight. Enjoying it right now at a ratio of about 5 parts BT to 1/2 part Coke; the other 1/2 part = ice.:D:D:D:D

Buffal Trace is one of the best drinks that no one has heard of. Its good mixed or straight up .....
I'm from Ohio too ... we may not make it .. but we sure can pick the good ones.

I actually like Buffaloe Trace better..........but since that may be just this side of sin on this forum..................I decided not admit such;). Uhhh, I think I just did!:D

Drinkin' it as we speak.

However, unlike you poor forkers, I live 50 miles from the place. If your ever down near south central TN or north AL, you owe it to yourself to visit and take the HD tour. Well worth it.

Ok, I need a drink....

FHEY, what do you know!
The smoke of the peat fires, the heather of the moors the salt air of the sea all in a sip. I'm an industrial mechanic tending high speed assembly machines for the medical devises manufacturer.

I'll drink JD if it's all there is, but I prefer bourbon, Beam or Basil Hayden (probably because it's 49% rye). But thanks for the thread; it inspired me to go pour a couple of fingers of Overholt over some store ice - the nectar of the gods. Try it. I have made many converts over the years.

On the rare occasions when I want to mix, it's Dr. Pepper, never Coke.

If you can't find Jack Daniels try some George Dickel. The distillery is about 40 miles east of the JD site. It's cheaper and has the same taste. I think the limestone water is the secret to the taste. Probably the same aquifer for both sites. As a long time bourbon drinker and TN native I can vouch for it. As to the Yankee's it's a problem all over the south. Nothing like someone who leaves their homeland to come down and tell us what we're doing wrong. Wouldn't live anywhere else though

If we're doing it wrong it's because we want to so ****! As to libations, I can't tell the difference in Ezra Brooks and JD. Ezra is about half what the JD sells for and after the third drink who cares? I had only a half a shot left in the Jim Beam bottle I've been working on for the last few days so I filled the rest of the shot glass with Old Crow Reserve. I'm guessing this is probably a classier cheap bourbon. I'll find out after the half and half if I feel like one more before bedtime. So far it tastes pretty good. I want to be serious here. Natural disasters can happen anywhere in the country. I was caught "high and dry" during the great bourbon shortage of Hurricane Katrina. I went for days without bourbon and finally my good friend Max, a fellow forum member, and a little brown truck came to my rescue with a plastic bottle of Jim Beam. THAT, my friends, was the best tasting bourbon I've ever had. The moral of this story is buy it by the case. When that case is half empty (or full, depending on how you look at things) buy another case. You never know what will happen.
