S&W pocket 9mm?

With the new pocket nines (Ruger LC9; Kimber Solo; SIG P290) now on the market, and with Taurus and Kahr models already in the market, I wonder where S&W's model is?

The BG380 competes with the LCP and TCP and the BG38 competes with the LCR, in terms of pocket polymers, so it would seem like S&W would introduce one as well. The M&P9c is a fine pistol, but it isn't DA like these others, and it isn't really a pocket pistol.

Well, that's true...I had forgotten about that. It still seems to me they would want to get into (or back into) this popular category.

They were metal, and well above the pricepoint of the LC9/P290 (of course, so is the Kimber).

They are great pistols, I think everyone would agree...however, they are not what most would call "pocket pistols." I'm curious if S&W is going to come out with one (a pocket 9mm) or stay out of this genre: a subcompact 9mm polymer framed DA or DAO pistol.

Other than a "little bit" more weight than the Poly Pocket models from other manufacturers, the CS series was definitely a pocket pistol. And they were very controlable compared to the Poly units. I have a CS9 and wouldn't trade it for any of the Poly pistols being sold by the other manufacturers. It beats them all, hands down, in every category that really matters.

5903 is stainless slide and light color frame and the 5904 is blue slide and dark color frame. There is one of each on gunbroker now if you want pics.

I don't know about that. I have a CS9 and also really like it. But there's over 5 oz of loaded weight between the CS9 and the LC9. I put my CS9 in a pocket holster but I never forget it's there. I wouldn't say 25 oz is a pocket gun. Just today i was carrying my CS9 in an IWB holster and I also never forgot it was there. 5 oz is over a quarter pound. Now, there is NO doubt that the CS series is a higher quality pistol, but there are smaller and lighter pistols out there that launch 9 MM rounds just like the CS does. A self defense gun has one purpose: to work when it needs to. It doesn't need to be the slickest thing out there. Now I'm torn btween getting an LC9 for summer carry and using the CS9 in the cooler jacket months, or going for the Bodyguard .380 for summer carry. I don't wanna start buying .380 ammo, but a 9-10 oz carry difference is a BIG difference.

I used to carry a S&W 642, but I insist on a safety on my carry gun. My 3 year old once saw me putting away my old model 36 and he asked to see it. I unloaded it and gave it to him with the cylinder open. he promptly closed the cyclinder, cocked the hammer, and pulled the trigger. The he said "now the dinsosaur falls down dead". I never taught him how to do that. I'd prefer a gun a bit less easy to use. I train enough to know how to flick a safety off. The gun is locked up and unloaded when not in use, but I still err on the side of caution.

I have been wishing for the same thing, possibly modeled after the M&P or SD lines. The BG380 is a flop to me, other companies are coming out with weapons about the same size that are 9mm. I like the Kel-Tec PF9, but the Sig 290 is even smaller (and I don't like Kahr or the Ruger LC9). Don't get me wrong, I love my P3AT and have the utmost faith in it, but I'd feel even better with a 9mm that I can take anywhere.

S&W has fallen behind on what the public actually wants: the BG came too late, and now pocket 9mm's are arriving with no sign of a S&W version. True, when their models arrive they do seem to be big winners, but it's too late. I suppose I will go with the P290 until S&W gets it together. I would love a CS9 if I could come across one, but even that is a bit big IMHO.

I do not have any experience with it, but I have heard of a reputable customized safety on S&W revolvers that uses the cylinder release thumb piece to engage/disengage.

Big Pockets! At my age I don't wear pants that accent the crack between my buttocks. My dress pants are all pleated and roomy, and my jeans are all the "relaxed" fit. So, yeah, I probably do have bigger pockets than a lot of the younger guys. I've also got a little bit more of me to stuff in my pants as well.

I've read a number of threads here on this forum of guys that have successfully carried the CS series autos in their pockets, in IWB holsters, and even OWB holsters, without any major effort. No, it's not "itty bitty" like some of the newer "watch pocket" models. But, it's all in what you wish to carry. I've shot a number of the new "itty bitty" .380s, and those damn things hurt. It goes without a lot of heavy thinking to realize, that a 9mm that's the same weight, or even within a few ounces of the .380s, is going to hurt a lot more. My Lord, people complain all the time about the .357 Js and what pain machines they are. Well, the little 9mm's aren't going to be a whole lot better. The CS9 is just very nice to shoot, even with the stouter standard 9mm loads. With the +Ps, it's tolarable as long as you don't shoot it a lot. .357 Js are not tolerable for any shooting for "most" people. The "itty bitty" 9mms are going to fall right in there, especially with +P loads.

No, I'll stick with something that's reliable to shoot in my hands, reliable functionally, and good for the long haul.

...by the time you pay a fair price the the gun and then add on shipping (ouch) and a $50 buck FFL fee for a piece of paper there are no good deals to be found!
