What is the best deal you ever got on a gun?

About 4 months ago, I picked up a 66-1 in very nice cond. for $175 + shipping fees.
Share your best finds with the rest of us, and include some pics.

I wanna say my RIA 1911 was my best deal so far 500bucks OTD. He did have to order it so he ate the shipping cost and the cost of the background check his shop also donates a portion of the sales to local charity. So I felt like I made out really good on the deal.

I did have a deal lined up to trade someone my Glock 17 for there Ruger 44mag Super Black Hawk LNIB + 350 cash on there end. Guy backed out at the last moment thought guessing he must have looked up the value of the Ruger and seen how bad the trade was for him.

It just happened yesterday.... But I can't tell you HOW good the deal was! Trust me! It was the best deal in the almost 52 years of my life! Model 60 no dash 2" Class A engraved.

This #5355 NF New frontier in .45 colt made in 1965. $250s in about 1973 from a pawn shop in reseda california. In researching it I found where audie murphy had ordered it and another consecatively number one and willed them to his two sons. Evidently one son took his to the nearest pawn shop and didnt explain who his dad was. The mate to it is in george gartons book, "Post war colt single action armys".
Thats the good news. The bad news is that I sorta lost it in a divorice. My ex still says she didnt take it and many more that only her and I had the combo to the safe it was locked up in.

I paid $25.00 for a used Iver Johnson TP-22. They didn't cost much to begin with but it's been so reliable I have to consider it a bargain. It's my mini PPK.

It ain't quite as purdy as Rags' model 36.

Several years ago, a friend whom I help with his guns when he has problems or wants hunting triggers smoothed and adjusted, called me up and offered me a series 70, 38 super govt. model in 98% for 450 bills. Needless to say I bought it thinking it would probably just lay in the safe.

Hasn't turned out that way because contrary to popular belief these things can shoot! I really like the gun except for the small sights and have been thinking about some hienie's or novak's. I guess if I'm going to change it I may as well get a beavertail grip and do the trigger,sear and disconnector,hammer and springs.

I sent it back to Smith and $50 later had a new barrel, cylinder stop, and finish. Some time around 1975.

Back in the early 60s the Air Base where I was stationed decided to get rid of some surplus M1 Garands. I was the winner of the squadron lottery and got to buy one. It cost me $21.10. When I went to supply to pick it up they couldn't find it until one of the clerks said to check the box leaning on the counter - there it was, brand new and still in its wrapping and cosmoline. Sometime later I made one of the biggest mistakes of my life - I traded it for a motor scooter

I bought a 1873 Trapdoor Carbine for $125 + tax at a gun shop. It was all correct, and a Custer Era gun. This was in the late 1980's so even for then it was a good deal.

In about 1998 I spotted a 3"x5" card on a community bulletin board saying "GUN". It was advertising a Colt Government Model for $60. I called and met the man. He had just retired from the Marine Corps as a Colonel. He said that this was the .45 that they issued him 20 years prior and had never fired it. He had always qualified with a .45 borrowed from the Armorer. He wanted to buy a shotgun for home defense and knew the .45s were not real well thought of in the civilian world. I agreed with him and paid the $60. It was a Remington-Rand and looked new. They sold it to him for $60 when he retired. I sold it five years later for $660. I never shot it either. Today it is probably worth $1000. :-( ......... Big Cholla
