What's your Ultimate 3 Inch Carry Piece??

I'll go with my old LAPD off-duty M10..."neutered" (DA only) with an armory tune-up. Shoots to POA at 17 yards (length of the combat range at the LAPD Academy) and carries well in either the Bianchi or DeSantis holsters I have for it. Still a favorite.

Here it is with another RB K-frame favorite, an M64 4"

I had this one custom made for me back in 89.

It carries well in the woods. Not what I'd carry in an urban setting - too powerful and a bit bulky in a cross draw for concealment.

For urban carry, I have a DW CBOB which is a commander bobtail 1911.

Nalapombu......

"The only thing is that the steel framed 3 inchers weigh quite a bit and at the end of the day you'd certainly know that you had something hanging on your belt."

Like you stated, the K's get a little heavy. I dropped down a round and found the perfect carry piece. 642 3-incher, light, accurate, and easy to carry.

I consider my 629 Talo my ultimate 3" revolver and I often carry it. I sent it in for a master revolver action package and an extreme duty rear sight.

Got to say that I am not a big proponent of 3" revolvers. After owning several, I found that it is 'to much and not enough'. A little to long to be a great CC gun (especially any type of pocket carry), and not long enough to be a full on 'hunting' or dangerous game gun. Kind of a tweener in a precarious place.

I must kindly disagree sir, but to each his own. I love a 3" revolver/s. Have carried two (3" 66-2 and 3" 657) both IWB for CC and OWB for hiking, camping and other outdoor activities. I don't do pocket carry with any weapon as I wear my pants on the snug side and can draw faster from a holster and do not like a barrel pointed at my femural artery or other important empendages while sitting down:). These two are way too much for pocket carry. My little 3" 66-2 dissapeared in a Milt Sparks IWB when I packed it in Florida in the mid 80's. Compared to my 5" Springer 1911 it is puny and a breeze to pack all day. I started packing that 1911 in Hell (Miami, Fl.) back in 93 until 09 with no problem as a SD weapon in a Milt Sparks Summer Special, a MS VM-II, TT Gunleather and a HBE, all IWB holsters. I recently bought a primo 2.5" 66-2 and a nice Lobo holster for CC to replace my Colt Commander that took the place of the Springer back in 09. Found after many practice sesions that I'm way faster and accurate with the Commander so it's back on my hip with 230 gr. Speer GD's and a extra mag or two. With my TT Gunleather holster and HBE or Beltman belts it too is a breeze to carry even with 3 herniated disks in my lumbar region. Same way with my 657. If you have a quality belt and holster, even an N frame is easily concealed and semi comfortable, especially OWB.

As far as hunting weapon took a few deer with the 66-2 up in Kodiak, Ak. using hand loaded hard cast 158 gr. GCLSWC's IMS.
If you're state allows 3" revolvers for hunting some .357 180 gr. Buffalo Bores would do a number on deer and I would feel well armed for a black bear, though an 870 would be good for BU. These are very stout for a K frame and I've only shot them in a 4" model 586 and never through the 66! The 657 loaded with them Heavy BB's in a 230 grain Keith will take any walking animal on North America with a well placed shot. Load it with a 210 gr. Speer Gold Dot and you will knock a deer down with authority and it will definately protect you against 2 and 4 legged critters. The 3" revolvers are every bit as acurate as my 4" Smiths.

JMO and I'm typing this with no glasses as the wife took em in the truck.

my favorite 3 inch s&w revolver is the s&w model 60 .357 magnum revolver. but loaded with .38 special ammunition instead of .357 ammunition.

My favorite carry gun is a 3" Charter Bulldog .44 SPL. At 18 oz., it's light, easy to carry and very accurate with 200GR. Gold Dots. This particular gun is a first generation Bulldog out of Bridgeport Connecticut, 1969.

Got a 3 " 66 performance center ported with a front night sight and Hogue grips. A sweet trigger!

This 629 is special to me.

This 64 is my daughters but I'm looking for a 357 for her so I can keep it.

Someone said 2 5/8 was close enough so I will include the 627 too.
it used to have K frame CT grips, now it has the big N frame's but no pix.

I guess my ultimate is still the 629

here's a photoshop rendering of my current project gun, a RB 3" Model 10...

Until it's finished I'' have to make do with this 64-3.

I really like my Lew Horton 624 but I'd have to go with my Talo 686+ for the extra cartridge and the slimmer cylinder.

I have to admit to having a soft spot (in my head) for three inch revolvers, and have found a few I really like. I carry most of them regularly.

From the top, a Rossi 44 Special, S&W 65-5, Talo 686+, SP-101, and Model 36-1. All get carried but the 36, I can't even bring myself to shoot it, it's just too pretty.

There are several more on the list. I think all revolvers should come with three or five-inch barrels!

I added two J-frames in the last year (I had a 642 and a 5" 63), a 60 Pro and a 63. Here is the 3" 63 with my first 3"-er, an 8.5+ year old 696:

This year's addition - a 3" 60 Pro:

Closer to 3" than the 2 5/8" PC627 UDR, my Governor deserves some mention (Shown with my 642 for scale size comparison.):

My 2 5/8" PC627's (One wasn't enough...), one in a Lobo Leather holster - on an insufficient belt. They are my heaviest 3" or shorter revolvers.

And, finally, the "Ultimate 3" (or so...) that actually gets carried Piece", my old pocket protector 2.5" 296 and a Mika holster:

Whew!

I'm really liking my 60-15.
The bbl is long enough to be accurate with a 3" but not so long it's ungangly to carry like a 5 or 6".
and S&W thought of everything by installing factory Tritium night sights. It weighs a mere 20 ozs. making it lighter then my XDm-40 @27 oz or my FNX-40 @ 22oz.
and it will fire the 38spl or the 357 magnum.
The Pro Series is the only way to go.
