Girlfriend shot a revolver for the first time today - did great.

Just bought a model 63 .22 revolver for me to plink with and practice with at the range. Took my girlfriend with me and she shot it and loved it. She has never shot a revolver before today and she did at least as well as me, if not better. Took her time and had great concentration. She also then did 6 rounds with my model 67 revolver in .38 special and handled it well too.

There were quite a few ladies there today, and we found out on our way out that on Mondays ladies shoot free (thought $12 plus tax was pretty cheap). Anyhow, she was doing better than a couple of them we saw and I was quite proud of her. We recently joined an outdoor gun club but a little chilly for that today. She already is looking forward to our next trip, whether indoors or outdoors.

With practice, I'm hoping there is a model 60 3" in our futures.

I will say this, a J frame is difficult for most women to shoot well. And if they are not able to hit the target, they tend to get discouraged quickly.

I would get her up on that 67, which in my opinion is a wonderful training gun for anybody. Start her out with 148 gr wadcutters.

And then progress up to 158 gr standard loads. And she needs to fire a ton of those.

Then let her fire the +P's.

Time and practice, but most of all she has to have fun doing it. Teach her how to clean it, maintain it as part of the education process.

The gals are good students. They usually don't have preconceived notions about how good they are.

Need to do the same here, well no girlfriend, but The Bride! My 63 should allow my kids also to get comfortable with a common manual of arms for all the revolvers.

Nice story and the 63's are nice. Though mines gets a little finicky about ejecting spent cases .

I train a LOT of new shooters and I start all with a .22 wheelie. They can pick it up quickly, usually shoot pretty well, and from there that builds confidence and wants them to come back for more.

I started my wife out with a semi-auto .22 so she could focus on sight alignment and trigger control, she has since moved up to .38's. From the beginning she shoot pretty well and enjoys going to the range. My only complaint is now she wants my guns for herself...
