Hi Folks new to the Forum. I have a pre 28 Highway Patrolman with a 6 inch barrel 5 screw # S1320xx it is like new and original I personnally know the origanal owner. I realize its early maybe late 1954-1955. Does anyone know know what the proper factory box this would go in. Of course I realize it wont be the original box but it deserves to be in a box none the less. Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Based on the date I would think it should go in a factory yelloe/gold box, but I can't say that I ever recall seeing one of those for an earyly highway patrolman. It may be that it would be an early brighter blue box that pre-dated the navy blue boxes.

I don't know if this is what is meant by an early bright blue box, but it has faded. My HP is a second month gun.

Blue box

Aircommando's box is identical to mine. It came with a 6" 5-screw HP but the end is stickered and the '6' is overwritten in black grease pencil. I can't make out what the number is underneath. The serial was on the bottom in white grease but has been rubbed off.

The serial # is S 133945.

Most people I consider well versed in S&W products say it should go in the blue and gold box. But every one I have seen should have had a pre 27 in it.

dacoontz, AirComando, S&WIowegan, thanks for your input I have been chasing the blue and gold box when I think I should be looking for the blue box. Bob your gun is like 1900 number later then mine and AirCommando has a second month gun so if you both have the same box and Im in the middle I have to assume my box would be the same. Some one mentioned the blue Im looking for is a brighter blue Ive seen blue lighter and darker shades and silver and of course the gold and blue box. Thanx Eddie

Bought a 28-3 today. Thinking it's from one of the later years from the serial number:

N954XXX
The usual holster wear and a few "beauty" marks but fires great and mechanically in great shape.

I finally was able to pick this up today. A Christmas present to myself! Model 28-2, appears to be from the '78-'80 period, S# N537xxx, pinned and recessed.
Found it on GunBroker a week ago. Can't wait to shoot it, but will have to wait until after Christmas it looks like.

I have a couple of Highway Patrolmans, like this N86XXX I bought new in 1972.

Then there this S110XXX I mistook for a M27 when I first saw it.

Yep, chrome plating makes it hard to get a good picture, but the gold plating isn't as much of a problem. :) It was cheap enough that I bought it anyway.

I'm new here, but have been reading great info for a long time. I recently picked up a 28-2 serial # N1038XX with tt/ th and ts ( not sure they are original ).
